Ember's POV
"How long will you stay?" Koko asked.
I informed her last week that I will probably go see my family shortly. I believe she did not take it seriously because I had never spoken about my family, not once. So her eyes widened when she spotted my packed box.
"I'm not sure yet; perhaps a few weeks? Who knows. I responded honestly. I'm not sure how long it will be before that event blows away. That stalker is still on my trail, and I need to get rid of him quickly before he finds out too much.
"For three years we have been roommates, and I never knew you had a family."
"Do you believe I fell from the heavens or something? Of course, I have a family," I laughed.
"You truly know how to hide things. I always assumed you were an orphan because you acted like one.
"How many family members do you have?"
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha!" I giggled at her adorable reaction.
"I have my father, mother, two siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins; I believe I have nieces or nephews at this time. I haven't been home in a while."
Koko's expression shifted as I enumerated my family members. I didn't believe it would surprise her that much.
"Why are you here?" She hesitated to ask.
"Come close and let me whisper it to you; it's a secret," I added in a low voice. She peered around cautiously. Before approaching me and bringing her ears near to my face. I reached out my hands and embraced her in a bear hug.
"I will miss you," I said to her, kissing her hair.
"I will miss my cute roomie," she said, flushing scarlet as she pushed me away from her.
"Yo, you tricked me!" she muttered. Her fat cheeks are so red that steam appears to emanate from them. I really wanted to pinch them, so I did.
"Eeeek!" she exclaimed as she dashed to a corner of the room. My laughing filled the entire room.
"You are so mean." Koko grumbled as she touched the cheeks I pinched.
"I will text you when I get home," I replied.
I checked the clock to ensure I wasn't running late.
"Please don't forget to..." I grinned when she responded.
"I won't," I told her.
I walked for a long time, not planning to take a taxi. I just packed a rucksack because I planned to run in between my journeys home. I dressed comfortably in track pants and a loose top. My reasoning is straightforward. I don't want to tell my stalker that I'm on the move with a travel bag and attractive clothes. I want his security to be down so that my getaway goes smoothly. I'm not sure how powerful my stalker is, but I'm positive they're not the typical person. I need to be more cautious with my moves. Raine kept me updated on their whereabouts for days because he wandered around my house. He snapped pictures of me and followed my every step. I do not want to get caught by such a deranged individual. What if they learn that I am a superhero? Then I'd be imprisoned and subjected to lab experimentation, which I fear.
After trekking a long distance to the park, I took off at the fastest speed I could muster, and I didn't stop running even when I entered the woods; I kept going until I ran out of air. I rested upon a fallen tree in the path I was taking to rest.
"Raine do you think you can handle this stress?"
"Do we have another choice?"
"Not really, but we can be able to rest here for a while. When we come across any inn eventually, we would have a nice meal and bath," I said with conviction. Raine hummed in response because she knew that it would be impossible to see an inn now, unless we go further into the woods. We are too close the human civilization, that means we're not out of bounds yet. Our stalker may be a very powerful person that can find us if we ever leave the forest. I am very convinced that he would.
"We will soon get home okay?" I reassured Raine
"I want to rest for a while, can't you go on by yourself?" She asked. I pursed my lips and said
"Yes, rest well. You need it," she has been on the lookout for days because of my stalker and this tires her fast but she held on for our safety. I really hope this passes over after we lay low for a while.
Xavier's POV
"You must be kidding me, Chase!" I said this in a dangerously low voice. Chase stood in front of me with his hair lowered in a subservient fashion, reporting that he had missed the Ember Woods track.
"How did this happen?"
"She got to the park and disappeared," he continued, repeating what he had claimed previously. I knew she had superhuman speed and hearing; why didn't I believe she'd flee after discovering Chase that night? She is indeed intelligent. She played dumb and forced me to lower my guard.
"Return to training; you need to improve your skills. Station people at each exit and contact me when you find her trail."
Chase saluted, "Yes, sir," before proceeding to the door.
"Wait…" I yelled out and he came to a halt, awaiting my orders.
"Keep tabs on the roommate's; check if she still keeps contact with her," I answered.
"Yes, sir"
'Clack' the door clicked as Chase left my office, and it got silent. Ember Woods, you truly are something. Let's see how long this cat and mouse game can last. I'm curious to see who will succumb first. I drew my lips together into an attractive smile. She can run, but she cannot run indefinitely. When she eventually pauses to rest, I'll employ every resource I have to capture her.
Without my knowing, I've gotten enamoured with her, and Chase took images of her while he was stalking her. I wasn't satisfied with simply soft copies, so I had all of the images framed and displayed in my office bedroom. I also ordered Chase to destroy any further copies of the images he had. I want to be the only one with these photographs and admire them alone.
