Chereads / Sniper From Finland / Chapter 2 - White Death

Chapter 2 - White Death

Silence ... The silence of a cold winter morning descended on the arena. The battle of humanity and the gods had begun once again. This time it was the deadliest sniper in the history of mankind.

In the centre of the icy arena in Helheim, a wave of white mist was rising. Murmurs began among the gods. "Who is this? He looks so ordinary... do they think a human can defeat us?"

But the silence was broken by Brunhilde's voice:

"This man is a hunter with 505 confirmed kills and countless legends. This is the White Death of Finland: Simo Häyhä!"

Suddenly the silence was broken by an icy wind that swept across the arena. Simo Häyhä, dressed in white, with a quiet determination on his face, stepped onto the stage. The rifle in his hand looked more like an artist's brush than a weapon.

"You called me here," Simo spoke in a calm voice. "I will show you what it means to survive."

His opponent was Skadi, one of the most fearsome hunters in Norse mythology. Skadi, wielding a huge ice spear, looked at Simo and laughed contemptuously.

"A mortal thinks he can defeat a hunter? You're just a shadow walking on ice."

Simo bowed his head slightly. "You taught a shadow to walk on ice, Skadi. But that shadow has grown."

Skadi suddenly covered the arena in ice, unleashing a massive blizzard. Visibility plummeted to zero. The footsteps echoing in the storm did not hide Simo's whereabouts. He could feel every detail in the ice.

Simo raised his rifle and held his breath. A man's breath would evaporate in the cold, but even that breath would not give away his location. He took aim and the first bullet echoed like a scream, cracking Skadi's ice spear.

Skadi drew back. "You're fast," he said. "But as a mortal, you cannot defeat me."

Simo smiled. "Surviving as a mortal is harder than defeating a god."

Skadi's attacks became more and more ferocious. Every corner of the arena was covered with ice, but Simo's movements were completely erased from the enemy's sight. His white camouflage and patience turned him into a ghost.

Suddenly, an explosion was heard right behind Skadi. Simo had strategically cracked some of the ice and the ice shards knocked Skadi off balance.

Simo raised his rifle again and this time the bullet pierced Skadi's armour.

'Let's see who the hunter is,' Simo muttered.
