Chapter 6: A Soldier's Homecoming

The briefing room was quiet as Simon August Jenner stood before the President of the United States, his crimson eyes locked on the commander-in-chief. The mission was over, the high-value target eliminated, and his squad returned unscathed. For most soldiers, it would be cause for celebration.

But Simon? He was already focused on the next mission.

"Major Jenner," the President said, his tone firm yet fatherly, "you've been on the frontline for three years without rest. Your service has been nothing short of extraordinary. But even the best soldiers need time to recover."

Simon frowned slightly, his disciplined mind struggling to accept the words he was hearing. "Sir, with all due respect, I'm ready for the next mission. There's still work to be done."

The President raised a hand, cutting him off. "Simon, this isn't a request. It's an order. You're to take one year of mandatory leave, effective immediately."

The Journey Home

Simon sat silently in the private jet arranged for his return. The hum of the engines was a stark contrast to the cacophony of the battlefield. His thoughts swirled, torn between his duty and the anticipation of seeing his family.

Gigi's face flashed in his mind—her tears, her voice trembling during their last call. He had promised her he would come back. Now, finally, he could fulfill that promise.

The jet touched down in Los Angeles under the cover of night. Simon disembarked, his black hair and striking red eyes hidden beneath a cap and sunglasses. He didn't want to draw attention—not yet.

A Night of Surprises

It was past midnight when Simon arrived at the Jenner family mansion. The sprawling estate was quiet, the lights dimmed as everyone slept. He moved silently through the gates, his instincts as sharp as ever.

The door creaked open as he stepped inside, his footsteps muffled by the plush carpet. He moved toward the living room, where family portraits lined the walls. His gaze lingered on a photo of himself, taken years ago before his deployment.

"You're home."

The soft voice startled him—a rare occurrence. He turned to see Kris Jenner standing at the top of the staircase, her eyes wide with disbelief.

"Mom," Simon said, his voice breaking for the first time in years.

Kris rushed down the stairs, pulling him into a tight embrace. "I can't believe it's you. You're really here."

Gigi's Surprise

The next stop was Gigi's apartment. He had called ahead, knowing she would be awake despite the late hour. When she opened the door, her eyes widened in shock.

"Simon?" she whispered, as if afraid he was a dream.

He smiled, his crimson eyes softening. "Hi, love."

Before she could say anything, he wrapped her in his arms, holding her close.

"You're really here," she murmured against his chest, tears streaming down her face.

"I told you I'd come back," Simon said softly. "And this time, I'm staying for a while."

Family Dinner

The next evening, the Jenner family gathered for a dinner unlike any other. The entire clan was present, their joy palpable as they welcomed Simon home.

Kendall and Kylie peppered him with questions about his experiences, while Kris fussed over him, insisting he eat more. Even the normally aloof Kim couldn't hide her excitement at having her brother back.

Through it all, Simon felt something he hadn't experienced in years: peace.

Reflection

Later that night, Simon stood on the balcony, looking out over the city. Gigi joined him, slipping her hand into his.

"You've changed," she said quietly.

Simon nodded. "The battlefield does that to you. But being here... with you, with my family... it reminds me of who I was before."

She leaned her head against his shoulder. "You don't have to go back, you know. You've done enough."

Simon was silent for a moment before answering. "Maybe. But for now, I just want to enjoy this. Us. Everything I fought for."

To be continued...
