The hotel suite was quiet, save for the muffled hum of the Parisian streets below. Hades handed Aurelia the key to her room.
"This is your room," he said, "I've increased our security. Both human and demon guards are stationed around the hotel. No one will get close to you again. You don't need to be scared anymore."
She took the key from his outstretched hand, her fingers brushing against his briefly. There was a warmth to his touch that sent a shiver down her spine, one that felt oddly comforting despite her lingering fear.
He pulled her into a firm but brief hug. The gesture was uncharacteristic of him, but it was exactly what she needed. For a moment, she melted into his embrace, the scent of him…. smoke and cedar… grounding her.
When he pulled back, his gaze lingered on her, as if searching for some reassurance. "Rest now," he said, stepping away. "I'll be close by if you need me."
