Chereads / Beta Zander Perez / Chapter 49 - Chapter 49

Chapter 49 - Chapter 49

Aurora James - POV

"Aurora?" Zander stopped midway as we both looked at the open door to see Alpha Lopez standing there. He looked stressed, with frown lines on his forehead, the black shirt he was wearing was wrinkled, and his hair was a mess.

"Alpha Lopez." I acknowledged when he walked inside, and Zander quickly took his hands from my cheeks and got up from his place.

"How are you doing?" he asked me when a fake smile crossed my face.

"Never felt better." I lied.

"I am sorry I couldn't attend your call, Aurora. I was in a very important meeting, so…"

"It's all right, Alpha Lopez. But I am glad the warriors came there on time." I asserted, and he nodded his head. "Did you manage to find that rogue?" I asked him after a long pause, and he shook his head.

"It's not as easy as we thought, Aurora. That rogue is working with the witch, so we are not able to detect him using his scent." Alpha Lopez exclaimed when a frown appeared on my face.

I was able to find that rogue using his scent, but why can't the trackers do the same?

"Aurora?" I was broken out from my train of thought when I looked up at him. "Next time, don't go trying to save someone like that, all right?" Alpha Lopez asked me, but it sounded more like an order than a request.

"Okay, Alpha Lopez," I said, and he nodded his head, after briefly glancing at both of us, he walked out of the room, leaving us alone again. I lay down on the bed and closed my eyes when I heard Zander move close to me again.

"I haven't told Levi about this incident yet." my eyes flew open as I stared at my mate.

"Thank you, but I think it is my responsibility to tell him," I uttered. Zander stared at me for a little while longer before he walked out of the room, leaving me with my thoughts.

"He looked dejected," Lily exclaimed, but I ignored her and went back to sleep. I woke up to the sound of someone talking, and as I opened my eyes, I saw Doctor Jenkins in the room with Zander.

"Can she leave now, doctor?" I heard him ask while she examined a file.

"Yes, but someone might have to take care of her, Beta Perez. It would take at least four days for the silver in her body to flush out, so till that time, she would be weak." doctor Jenkins explained. "I heard that Levi and she are getting married. Why don't you call him back so that he can take care of his mate?" doctor Jenkins suggested, and this made a smile form on my face.

"That would not be necessary, doctor Jenkins. I will arrange something else." he retorted, and I heard the anger in his tone.

"Okay, take care of her, Beta Perez." doctor Jenkins told him before she walked out of the room. When Zander was about to turn around to face me, I quickly closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.

"I know you are awake, Aurora." I heard him whisper in my ear, which made a shiver run down my spine. My eyes flew open when I saw that he was only an inch away from my face.

"Can I leave this room now?" I asked him, and he nodded his head as he stepped away.

"I brought in some clothes for you to wear. It is inside that bag," he said as he pointed to an overnight bag that was next to the bathroom. "I will wait outside." he asserted, and I nodded my head. I got up from bed, and as I placed my feet on the floor and got up, I felt everything spin around me.

"Zander," I called out, and just before I fell to the floor, I felt his warm hands wrap around my waist and pull me close to his chest. I took hold of his shirt while I buried my face in his chest.

"Are you sure you want to go back home?" he asked me, sounding doubtful.

"Yes, I don't think I would get better staying in here," I mumbled when I felt him nod his head.

"Why don't you take a seat, and I will go and get a nurse to help you change your clothes, all right?" he asked me. I was about to say yes, but Lily took advantage of my momentary weakness.

"No, you help us change." she asserted. When I looked up, I saw that his eye color was rapidly changing.

"Zander," I whispered as I touched his cheek when his eye color settled on the blue that I had always known.

"I can call someone to help you change," he said, and I nodded my head as I felt my cheeks burn in embarrassment.

"Tell mate to help us," Lily whined in my head.

"Would you shut up?" I scolded her. Zander helped me sit on the bed, and he walked out of the room. A few minutes later, a nurse walked inside and helped me change. Once I was ready, she helped me walk outside the room when I saw Zander waiting for me there.

"Shall we go?" he asked me, and I nodded my head.

As we walked out of the hospital, he began walking towards the pack house instead of my cabin, which made a frown form on my face. "The cabin is the other way, Beta Perez."

"You will be staying in your old room till Levi comes back, Aurora. I don't want to take another chance."

"But…" Before I could complain, we came to an abrupt stop as he turned me around so that we faced each other.

"That rogue had come all the way inside my pack without triggering any of the sensors, and he tried to kill one of my pack members as well, Aurora. I don't think I can let you stay in there alone. Do you understand?" he asked me while I stared deep into his eyes.

"Why?" I asked him when I saw a conflicting look in his eyes.

"Because you are under my responsibility and nothing else," he said in a dismissive tone when a sarcastic smile formed on my face.

"You're lying," I said when he raised an eyebrow at me. "It's because of the note that Rogue left you, isn't it?"
