Chapter 9 - Part 9

"Boss, I have the information you need. Is there any other information needed?" the driver asked as he returned to the car.

"I think that's enough, Bruce. I've got what I need. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the two men to leave," Charles replied.

Cassandra clenched her fists tightly, her eyes still watching her father and stepmother, who were now heading towards her car. They were both walking with pride as if they had accomplished something.

Charles' personal driver was quite brilliant. He stood around the three of them while pretending to call someone. He repeatedly nodded and occasionally mentioned large amounts so as not to be suspected. After pocketing enough information, he pretended to be annoyed and muttered that he was canceling the meeting with the lawyer.

"Are you ready?" asked Charles as he turned to Cassandra.

Cassandra nodded, opened the car door, and took her husband's hand to surprise lawyer Harris.

"Mr. Tom Harris, long time no see," Cassandra greeted as soon as she saw her mother's lawyer in the lawyer's office lobby.

The man, whose hair had started to turn white, gasped in surprise when he saw Cassandra's arrival. He even stepped back and almost hit the banister. Clearly, this man was not prepared for the arrival of Cassandra and Charles.

"Ca... Cassandra Miller?" asked Tom Harris, trying to find the right words to say at the moment while covering his nervousness.

"Well she was, but now she is Cassandra Parker, since she married me." Charles immediately said and greeted the man in front of him.

"Oh yes Cassandra Parker." Lawyer Tom Harris said Cassandra's name clumsily.

At that moment, Cassandra turned to her husband and said, "Mmm, Mr. Harris, I'm here because I have something to tell you essentially important. Can we talk in your room more specifically?"

Cassandra deliberately glanced at Mr. Harris as she finished her sentence. Tom Harris was silent and tried to avoid eye contact with Cassandra.

'How is this, does he know about my meeting with Geoffrey Miller? Is she here because she wants to find out about what I talked to him about? Could it be that Cassandra is here for her late mother's hotel?' lawyer Tom Harris asked himself.

The lawyer unconsciously bit his lip, trying to find a way to avoid Cassandra. 'This woman must not know about what happened between me and Geoffrey Miller. My lawyer's license could be revoked if she finds out about what I did with Geoffrey Miller. But how can I avoid Cassandra's questions? Will I have to lie?'

Tom Harris was still puzzled by this.

"Mr. Harris!" Cassandra called back to him and made him flinch.

"How was it? Would you like to discuss it in the lobby or in your room?" This time, Cassandra put more pressure on Mr. Harris and gave him no chance to refuse her request.

Seeing the confidence of the brunette woman in front of him put him in an even bigger bind. He began to think that Cassandra already knew everything.

Lawyer Harris began to look around him, then let out a long breath and said softly, "Cassandra, you have to listen to me. I have nothing to do with what your father asked for."

Cassandra furrowed her brows and looked sharply at the man before her as if asking him for more explanation.

"Although your father and your stepmother came here, but I have absolutely nothing to do with the decision that he has made. I ask you not to misunderstand and accuse me of working with him to remove your name from the inheritance list of your late mother's hotel," Mr. Harris said.

"Changing my name?" Cassandra asked in confirmation. But inwardly, she wanted to laugh. How could Mr. Harris not be involved with changing the heir from Cassandra Miller to Vivian Hartley? This was absolutely ridiculous.

Mr. Harris then looked around and exhaled a long breath. "Sorry Miss Cassandra, I don't think we can talk about it here. Why don't we talk about it in my office?"

"No problem." Cassandra retook Charles' hand and looked at lawyer Harris with a sharp, intimidating gaze as if to say, 'Don't forbid me to take my husband.'

The three of them went to Mr. Harris' private room on the second floor. The man visibly shook as he pulled out a chair and invited Cassandra and Charles to sit.

"Actually, your father asked me to do this a long time ago. But I never agreed to it because I remembered your mother's request. But a few days ago your father persuaded me to do it. Your father said that now you are married and part of another family. You also no longer need the inheritance, because there is no one to take care of it, so your father asked me to transfer it to Vivian."

Cassandra nodded and turned to her husband. Under the table, Charles curled his fingers into an O, signaling that their wanted information had been answered.

"Cassandra, I've told you everything. You're not going to question me, are you? You're not going to sue me for changing the contents of this will, are you?" Mr. Harris asked, sounding worried.

'Good, I've got your card. I didn't ask you, but you uncovered it yourself,' Cassandra thought.

"Ehem!" Charles cleared his throat to break the tense atmosphere. "Actually, we're not here to discuss that. I came here because I heard from Cassandra that you are very competent in dealing with property legalities, and I am planning to buy some property here."

Mr. Harris was so shocked that he clutched his chest. It felt like he was choking, and he had to cough repeatedly. He quickly got some water and drank it.

"So you're not here because you saw Geoffrey and Megan come to see me?" Mr. Harris asked.

Cassandra and Charles looked at each other and shrugged.

"Did my father come here earlier? I didn't see him, we just arrived."

Mr. Harris collapsed in a heap. His hands were clenched into fists as he muttered softly, "Damn! I misunderstood, and it looks like this is going to be a long one."

"What are you talking about, sir? Are you unable to fulfill my request? If you can't, then I'll try to find another lawyer," Charles said to Mr. Harris' surprise.

"Oh no... no, you misunderstand, Mr. Parker. Of course I am able to fulfill your request. I'm just a little surprised," said Attorney Harris, trying to cover his nervousness.

"Surprised? Did my request surprise you? Or could it be that Cassandra's supposedly missing arrival surprised you?" Charles added, leaving Mr. Harris even more confused.
