"Huh, then how did you get to the spirit world?"
Before Emma answered her question she remembered what The Wishing Star told her, "I don't exist."
"I don't know." Emma said.
"So, you're telling me, you're from earth and you got to this place some unknown way, and you don't have a patron who took you here?" Alita inquired.
"Yes," Emma responded.
Just then Alita had come closer to her and hovered her hand over Emma too. She had a growing smile on her face after she had put her back down again.
"Would you mind if I was patron? I can provide many resources for you and help you grow and survive in this world," Alita asked.
This was the chance that she had been waiting for! Emma was joyful that she had found a patron already,It hadn't even been an hour yet.
"Yes!" Emma shouted.
"Neat, follow me. We're gonna get a contract at my place" Alita responded, while rubbing her hand on Emma's head.
Alita was walking away from Emma, telling her to follow. They had passed through multiple alleyways and roads. Emma had felt that the place was alien the entire walk. She wasn't even the slightest familiar with the odd town.
Throughout the walk we talked about what spirits are and how they worked.
"Alright, first I got to inform you on how things work. Every spirit has a 'suffering' that comes with an ability. Suffering are the things that restrain us, and like the name implies make you suffer.
"There are three types of suffering, physical sufferings,mental suffering, and spiritual suffering,
"Physical suffering is some that restrains you physically, could be something like being disabled
"Mental suffering restrains your mind from doing things that you want, or could make you mentally ill is some way
"And finally spiritual suffering is an enormous limit placed on your spiritual ability. For example some with that type of suffering could die from using their ability too much" Alita explained.
"Then what type is my suffering?" Emma asked.
"Just think about it for a second. What is it that's different about you since you came to the spirit world," Alita responded.
Emma had stared at the ground, thinking to herself what is so different about her? Ever since she became a spirit, Emma hasn't really changed much. Except for the fact that she had superhuman strength, and that she had been a bit more curious about things. For example, the whole reason why she had gotten into that situation before was that she couldn't restrain herself from asking about the weird things about that snake guy.
Emma looked up at Alita while still walking and answered, "I think I have a mental suffering, I've been way more curious about stuff ever since I got here."
"That's unfortunate for you, but it would be best if you don't share that with anyone. Other spirits might use that against you if they want a quick meal," Alita answered.
After staying silent for a bit Emma wondered about the things Ms.Alita said before during that short fight.
"Alita, what's a wanderer and hungry? And what do you mean by a newborn?"
