Thalina felt the comfort of something warm on her, but that comfort was quickly shattered by something that reeked of blood.
Her nose scrunched as she cracked one eye open, letting the covering slide off her body. It landed in her lap, and she grimaced. An animal skin.
Judging by the shape, it looked like some alien boar—properly skinned and even washed, but the metallic tang of blood still clung to it like an uninvited guest.
The soft crackle of fire nearby drew her attention. She turned her head and froze.
Eryx.
His enormous frame was bathed in the glow of the firelight, his long black tail coiled beneath him like a sleeping serpent, speckled with faint white dots that shimmered faintly.
His silver eyes stared directly at her, unblinking.
"Oh no," Thalina whispered under her breath, panic knotting in her stomach.
