A few minutes later, Damian walked into a neighbouring room and put Lilith down on a bed. "Hmmm, I can still… go with you… to Uncle Theon, right…?" his little sister mumbled, already half asleep from exhaustion.
"Of course, little Lili," Damian smiled as he kissed her forehead. "I'll go spend some time with Luna, and then I'll come get you."
"Good…!" she mumbled and yawned. "Don't for..get…!"
And then she was out, sleeping soundly with a satisfied smile on her lips, exhausted from her battle.
Softly, Damian made his way out, and stepped back into Luna's room. There, he found Luna resting on her own bed, now shoved in a corner of the room, surrounded by more chaotically placed furniture. She had both her arms resting on top of her face in a sign of exhausted frustration.
"Dames…" she growled as soon as she heard him approach. "Did you really force me, your pregnant, worried… whatever I am to you… to fight your little sister? Just to alleviate her frustration? Because I'm not sure how I'd think about that…"
Chuckling confidently, Damian moved over to the bed and climbed into it. "I think you do know! You'd be pissed!"
Taking her arms off her face, she turned to glare at him. "Of course, I would be! So please tell me you had a good reason!"
Smiling, Damian sat down against the bed's backrest and leaned over to Luna. "Of course I did. I wouldn't put you through that otherwise," he said gently. At the same time, he unceremoniously hooked his arms under her armpits and pulled her against his chest.
The sore, exhausted Luna groaned softly but didn't put up any resistance. In fact, she sighed and leaned against his chest willingly. To her surprise, her body relaxed like it hadn't done in several days. She hadn't even realized how stressed she'd truly been about everything that happened.
Meanwhile, Damian became no less comfortable. With a contented sigh, he rested his chin on her shoulder, wrapped his arms around her waist, and rested his hands on her stomach.
Luna rested her hands rested on top of his. "We're not done talking about that…" she muttered, despite the comfortable feeling spreading through her body.
"I know…" Damian muttered softly in her ear. "But let's just enjoy a moment of peace together, alright? It's been a turbulent few days, and I'd like to enjoy a quiet moment with a woman I love."
Luna's eyes flickered with relief and doubt. "You're still spouting that nonsense…?" she whispered softly, staring ahead, unable to see Damian's face. "I wouldn't blame you if you didn't anymore…" The sight of her Damian strapped to that altar remained vivid in her mind.
Suddenly, she appeared far more vulnerable than before. Damian realized only now the doubts that plagued her mind. Fortunately, he knew just how to pull her out of it.
"Hehehe," he chuckled teasingly. "To think I'd see you scared! You really love me that much, huh?"
Instantly, doubt made way for anger again, and a healthy blush appeared on her cheeks. Though, whether from embarrassment or anger, no one could tell.
"Ack! Shut up!" she exclaimed and elbowed the man behind her blindly. Laughing softly, Damian took her blow like a man, thanking his newly acquired strength.
Afterwards, she crossed her arms in front of her modest chest and huffed. Yet, through it all, she remained leaning comfortably against his chest.
Smiling and sighing, Damian pulled her supple body closer to him, breathed in deeply, and savoured her smell. "You smell much too good for me to stop loving you!"
Luna immediately snorted, "That's very creepy, Dames."
"I don't mind!" he answered and took another deep whiff, causing Luna to roll her eyes. All the while, a small smile had started spreading on her lips.
This was the Damian she fell in love with. Intelligent, witty, charming. Manipulative and ruthless, sure, but not with her, and that gave her a strange feeling of… power…? She wasn't sure, but she enjoyed it quite a lot.
"What about you, though?" Damian asked, curiously. Her actions already said plenty about her feelings, but he still wanted to know her thoughts on the matter. "It was your father who kidnapped me, true, but it's your kinsmen who died, and are dying, by my family's hands."
Luna's expression fell, and she sank back into sombreness. Yet, I didn't last long. Within moments, her expression cleared up again, and she looked up at Damian with a wry smirk. "Fuck 'em!"
"Really?" Damian asked, an eyebrow raised in genuine surprise. "My mother won't care much about the fate of your family as a whole, but… your father will have to die."
Luna paused a moment, and Damian thought she'd reconsider… but then she shook her head with a sigh. "I know… and I don't care. My father wasn't abusive or anything, but he never really cared about me, so… I don't care that much about him, either."
Then she frowned, and looked up at him. "But… I want to talk to him before he dies. He… never told me who my mother was, and I want to see if the prospect of death loosens his lips."
Immediately, a callous grin spread across Damian's face. "Oh, if that's all… I'm sure that, when the time comes, we can loosen his lips in all sorts of ways."
"No torture!" Luna immediately denied, shaking her head. "He's still my father!"
Sighing dramatically, Damian hugged her a little closer. "If my lady so wishes, then so it shall be!" Yet, a dangerous glint passed through his eyes. If Luna wanted to know her mother's identity, he'd find out for her… one way, or the other.
"What about the rest of them?" he then asked, referring to the Lykos family as a whole.
Luna sighed, seemingly a little unsure."I never really got along with any of them. I had a few wetnurses when growing up, but they never showed me much care. As for others of my age, they all cared about different things than I did. I wanted to strive for a better world; they only cared about themselves, and the next sparring match."
Yet, then she looked up at Damian and smirked with fierce pride. "Besides, you Moroi won't find it so easy to take down the Lykos! Even if the rest of the city supports you!"
Deciding she was finally done with this conversation, she sat up, ignoring Damian's attempt to keep her in place, and turned to look him in the eyes solemnly. "Now, can we finally talk about 'our' family? And why you wanted me to beat up your little sister?!" She underscored her words by placing both hers and Damian's hands on her life-filled stomach.
