Odel, who had a fever, was caught going out by Clayton. To make matters worse, the vampire man finds out that Odel didn't go out to buy fruit as she claimed, but instead, she met Adrian, her senior. Without saying much, Clayton looked visibly upset and left the apartment immediately.
"Clayton! Hey!" Odel called out.
She sighed as she looked around the now-empty room, feeling guilty.
"Oh my God, I feel like a wife caught cheating!" she muttered, pressing her aching forehead, which only worsened her dizziness.
Closing her eyes, Odel felt too exhausted to argue anymore. Her body was burning up, and she had no desire to take the medicine that Clayton had prepared for her on the table. It felt wrong to accept his kindness after making him so upset.
"Is it so wrong to hope for a normal love story? Ugh!" she mumbled, starting to ramble due to her high fever.
Meanwhile, a furious Clayton storms out in search of Adrian. He was certain that the annoying man trying to charm Odel was still lurking around the neighborhood. He wanted to settle the score with Adrian—if possible, he'd sink his fangs into him and drain him dry.
With anger burning inside him, Clayton spotted Adrian sitting calmly on a park bench, admiring the scenery.
"There he is! I'll make you pay, Adrian!" Clayton muttered.
But before he could approach, Clayton saw an elderly woman passing by in front of Adrian. She was carrying many shopping bags, and out of nowhere, the plastic bags ripped, scattering her groceries everywhere. Adrian, who happened to be nearby, immediately rushed to help.
Clayton halted his steps and silently observed from a distance. Adrian was kind enough to gather all the scattered items and even offered the old lady his cloth bag.
"But that's your book bag, young man!" the old woman said hesitantly.
"My books are few; I can carry them or tuck them in my jacket. Please, take my bag. Don't worry about it," Adrian replied warmly.
Clayton's expression softened, and his anger gradually faded. He turned around, losing his urge to confront Adrian. Watching him, Clayton realized that it was Adrian's kindness and warmth that made Odel comfortable around him—something Clayton might never be able to provide for her.
Back at the apartment, Odel's fever had worsened. She was shivering under the blankets, looking like she was on the verge of collapse. When Daffin and Emilio returned from campus, they were immediately alarmed by her condition.
"Oh my God! She's completely cooked! Her skin is so red! What do we do?" Emilio exclaimed in panic.
"Hold on, I'll call Baron! He should know what to do when a human gets sick!" Daffin replied, equally anxious.
"Where's Clayton? Didn't he say he was coming home to take care of Odel?" Emilio grumbled.
"I have no idea! But he should take responsibility for this."
Not long after, Emilio and Daffin arrive at the emergency room. Baron suggested that hospitals were the best place for humans to recover when they are sick. He even recommended a specialist doctor who also happened to be a vampire.
Dr. Rabbeca, the vampire doctor, immediately gave Odel an injection to reduce her fever.
However, instead of focusing on Odel, Emilio and Daffin were captivated by Rabbeca. For a doctor, the blonde vampire woman wore an unusually short pencil skirt, and her shirt buttons weren't properly fastened.
"What are you staring at?" Rabbeca asked, narrowing her eyes.
"Is that real?" Emilio asked bluntly.
"That's definitely surgery, Emilio. There's no way a vampire like her exists naturally!" Daffin replied skeptically.
Rabbeca buttoned up her shirt with a sharp glare at the two junior vampires, snorting in irritation.
"I'm cutting off your blood juice supply! You're so rude!" she threatened.
"Uhh… she's feisty!" Emilio grinned, enjoying the tease.
"Stop it, Emilio. How's Odel, Rabbeca?" Daffin asked, trying to focus.
"She'll recover, but you were a bit late in bringing her here. She'll need to stay for at least a day for observation," Rabbeca explained.
"Alright, I understand. Thank you."
Rabbeca left, and shortly after, Clayton arrived in a hurry after hearing that Odel had been hospitalized.
"How is Odel?" he asked anxiously.
"She's asleep, come in!"
Clayton stepped into the room, his face filled with deep regret. Guilt gnawed at him for his impulsive actions earlier—leaving Odel alone in her sickness and distress just because of his jealousy towards Adrian. As he saw Odel lying weakly on the hospital bed, his chest tightened with remorse.
Daffin and Emilio were already sitting in the corner of the room, both staring daggers at him the moment he entered.
"Clayton," Emilio started with a sharp tone, "You said you'd take care of Odel earlier. But where were you?"
Clayton remained silent, unsure of what to say. Every word he wanted to utter seemed stuck in his throat.
Even Daffin, who was usually calmer, couldn't hold back his frustration. "Where did you go, exactly? I trusted you because I thought you'd know how to handle this, but you were nowhere to be found!"
Clayton took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. "I know," he said quietly. "I was wrong. I'm sorry."
Emilio and Daffin stared at him in shock. In all their lives, they had never heard Clayton apologize like that. Maybe this time, he truly felt guilty.
"Alright then! You want to stay with her, right? Take care of her, I'll step out for a bit!" Daffin said, deciding not to scold him any further.
"Hey, I'm coming too!" Emilio chimed in.
Clayton nodded and, with heavy steps, finally sat down on the chair beside Odel's bed. He could only watch her pale face, her flushed skin from the fever making him feel even guiltier.
A few moments later, Odel began to wake up, but as soon as she saw Clayton sitting next to her, she decided to pretend to be asleep. It felt awkward after being caught going out with another man, yet she still had to receive Clayton's kindness.
Unlike Odel, Clayton grew even more dejected. He was worried that Odel wasn't waking up because she was seriously ill.
Staring at her face, he gently brushed her hair back and spoke softly.
"I'm sorry, Odel... I couldn't take care of you properly," he whispered.
Odel heard his words, even though she continued pretending to sleep. An indescribable feeling stirred within her. Her heart felt touched, and for the first time, she saw a softer side to Clayton.
Perhaps she had been too focused on his dark side as a vampire all this time. But now, she was starting to realize that maybe... Clayton, the vampire man, wasn't so bad after all.
