When Evelyn stopped to catch her breath, she turned toward Enzo, pointing a finger accusingly at him as she marched up. "And you! You told me you'd take care of her. You promised nothing would happen to her!"
She emphasized her words by repeatedly jabbing her pointed finger into his chest. "So how come this happened, huh?! You were supposed to protect her!"
Enzo raised both hands in mock surrender. "Calm down. She's in one piece, isn't she?"
"Calm down?!" Evelyn's voice pitched higher, and she threw her hands up. "You want me to calm down?!"
At this point, Adeline couldn't contain herself anymore and burst out laughing from the bed. "Evelyn, stop," she managed between laughs. She swung her legs off the bed and stood, walking over and grabbing her wrist to pull her back.
