"It makes me wonder if a woman doesn't have needs, or do men not have a character?" Dove said squinting her eyes at them.
She looked at them with a sneer before she said again, "And moreover, it is not like I ever wanted to keep this engagement. I have had been quite all this while, as I was still a minor, and had not reached my consentable age. And I had wanted to end it in a friendly note. But now, I can't keep up anything. So, I, Dove Sterling, am officially breaking off this engagement with Roan Davis." Dove said as she looked at Roan in the eyes.
Somewhere in the back of her head, she knew that with whatever motive the Davis' family had in mind. And how they have come here, and reacting earlier, they wouldn't just let go of everything with a simple apology from her. They would have broken of the engagement. And would definitely try to benefit against the arrangement that was made between the families years ago, during the engagement. And even if they did not break the engagement, that family would not let any chance to humiliate her and her grandfather. And would definitely try to benefit from them, that would be a different thing. And then for the rest of their lives, they would continue taunting her on how merciful they were to 'forgive' her.
Dove couldn't handle such things. If that was what they had planned to do, then they could just continue to keep dreaming. And thus, even before they could try anything, she decided to just twist the whole situation. Did they try to blame her? Yes. And she accepted it proudly. But where they ready for her to throw the reality towards them? Not at all. And while they were just coping up with the shock, Dove just decided to end the engagement. Even if it was just for show, she was the one who broke the engagement, and not the other way around.
"You-" It was Mrs Davis who gritted her teeth, and was just starting to say something more, when Elder Sterling who had been quite all this while, spoke, "That is enough." And all the attention was back on him, and everyone looked at him in question.
Elder Sterling looked at them all with cold gaze, and said, "Dove has already broken off the engagement. And since, she is now an adult, very capable of making her own decisions, I think we all need to respect that. And either way, now seeing it, I don't think that keeping this engagement would do any good to our children's life in any way."
And hearing him say that, the rest of the people's eyes widened and they looked at Elder Sterling in shock. And the most shocked was the Davis family. Though, they had initially thought that they would be the one be breaking the engagement if it called for it. But with that they would also look for something profitable for themselves. But here the case was turned around.
And Mr Davis blurted out, "Senior Sterling! What do you mean! How can we break the engagement off like this!" After all, though Mr Davis wouldn't say it here, but having Dove as the daughter in law of their family would elevate their family's status even more. After all, she was the heiress of the Sterling family's business. And given the fact that she was very smart.
And even if the engagement is going off, they did not seem to be having the upper hand in here.
Senior Sterling looked at Mr Davis coldly and said, "And what good do you see in keeping the engagement going, Mr Davis?"
