Chapter 17 - Magic

I woke to the sweet smell of flowers as the loud chirpings of birds flooded in through the window. The sky was bright, and the rays of sunlight pierced the clouds. Butterflies fluttered in, flapping their wings as they danced around, energetically- tracing back their steps eventually.

I sat up, looking around the room Queen Sylvia had had prepared for me upon my arrival. The walls were painted a dark shade of blue with slashes of bright yellow. It's make up was as the 17th century buildings I'd seen in the movies.

The door opened as two female elves dressed in exquisite maid robes walked in, pushing a trolley of breakfast dishes. Their silver eyes seemed alive yet so distant, as if, they weren't really there.

"Good morning, Great Seer.", they chorused mechanically.

"Good.... morning.", I replied, trying not to show how puzzling they were.

"Would you care for some coffee-"

"Or some tea?"

They chorused, one after the other.

They looked indistinguishably identical at the first glance, but with time, I could see that one of their hair was shorter than the other. One of them was also a little more than a bit shorter than the other. She was chubby and had more pronounced curves, whilst the other elf was leaner and poised.

"I would like a bit of both-"

They made a move to pour both the coffee and tea in the same cup.

"No. Separately, please."

They stopped for a brief moment, each with a quizzical look on her face. I smiled shyly.

"Sugar?"

"Yes."

"Cake-"

"Or biscuit?"

"Both."

I ate in awkward silence, trying not to make a sound whilst chewing, as they stood there, watching me- waiting for me. The chubby elf seemed to be on the brink of laughter.

Kromm

I stopped, my eyes widening in embarrassment as I realized my teeth had just betrayed me. I let out a silent sob as I pushed down the malicious chuck of biscuit, down my throat. The chubby elf burst out laughing as the leaner one kicked her by the side to remain quiet. She had a horrified look. I looked at the chubby elf, the remaining biscuit in my hand. Immediately, her laughter disappeared. I saw fear crawl up her legs. They bowed their heads.

"Forgive us, Seer!"

They seemed to be trembling.

I laughed. They, both, raised their heads slowly to look at me, each, with a puzzled expression drawn on their faces.

I set down the biscuit in my hand, sipping some coffee.

"What is your name?", I asked, looking at the curvy elf.

"Jo..sie."

"Josie....and you. What is your name?"

"Lydia, my Lord."

"You have very beautiful eyes- it's difficult not to get lost in them.", I said, addressing no one in particular.

I picked up the cake, and ate, enjoying the rush of red in their faces. I smiled deviously.

"My Lord, you have awoken!"

It was Queen Sylvia.

She marched into the room with purpose, a blue book in her left arm. Her gown was a dark shade of red, and her hair bounced in curvy waves. Her ears distinctively pointed outwards.

"Good morning, your Majesty.", the elves chorused, bowing deeply as they turned to face her. Their faces were still very red.

The Queen seemed to notice as she looked suspiciously at me, squinting her eyes narrowly. I simply chewed on my cake and biscuits.

She dismissed the girls temporarily, telling them to say within earshot. They seemed sad to leave, especially Josie, whose waist swayed dramatically.

"Good morning, Sylvia.", I said, a smile tugging at the edge of my lips. I looked up at her, my gravely innocent eyes staring deeply into her's. She blushed, looking away briefly.

"Seer...", she took in a deep breath, composing herself.

"We have a lot to do today. So, not to rush you, but you'd need to finish your meal faster."

"What are we doing today?"

She sat on the bed, placing the book between us. It's cover seemed sturdy and alive.

"This is a book of advanced elementary magic. You are powerful enough to begin from there."

I sighed, dropping the empty cup of tea on the tray.

"Sylvia... To ri pe Olorun, I do not practice magic. I am of a different religion, ejor."

She looked a bit disappointed, but she pressed on.

"The enemy is searching vehemently for you now just as we speak. At this current stage, you- and all you hold dear- would be wiped out in one blow. I no longer have long to live, and the lives of all these elves are tied to mine. We cannot protect you if you do not learn to harness your skills."

She took the tray in her hands, and walked to the door, calling out to the maids to roll away the trolley.

I stood up, and stretched. I walked to the window, and inhaled deeply. The scene was beautiful, but it felt fake.

"You are powerful, Lord Tobi, but you are not all powerful. You are not invincible, and are succeptible to pain and death. If you die now, there is no hope for the future because sooner or later, the elves will return to oblivion."

I turned to face her, my eyes weary.

"Teach me."
