Chapter 18 - The Universe

"...the words shouldn't be that hard to pronounce."

Sylvia was pointing at a page- the language written therein was not English.

I sighed.

"Tyhu...mki...ju..k.... Sorry, I don't think I can get it.", I said.

Although I had told her to teach me how to practice the mystic arts, I had no real interest in the occultic.

She frowned a little, rubbing her chin as she stared at me. Like a bolt of lightning, she jumped off the bed, running out of the room and yelling to me that she would be back.

I stared at the door for quite some time. The thoughts in my mind were still incoherent- somewhat blank. I remembered to breathe, picking up the mystic book she had left on the bed. I turned the pages, surfing through the words and pictures. The language seemed ancient- or so I thought. I found a picture of a door, wide and strong. A person stood in front of it, his clothes were like the attire of the mages I'd seen in movies. From the door came forth a humanoid creature. It was hard to tell what exactly the creature was as only it's torso showed. Could this be a teleportation spell? I took in a deep breath, sitting upright and uncrossing my legs. I cleared my mind of every thoughts, and tried to focus on what it was I thought the image portrayed- just had France-Lyse had taught whilst we were together. I felt a pang in my chest- almost as if I missed her?

I shook my head, breathing in deeply. I felt power run through my veins like electrical volts. The world fell into oblivion and all I saw was that spell- something didn't seem right.

"El la abismo mi alvokis vin, leviĝu ĉi-momente-"

"Ho grandaj kaj puraj, aŭskultu mian peton hodiaŭ! Al la abismo revenu, vi estaĵo de konsterno!!"

I raised my head in shock to see Sylvia shaking and gasping for air. Her face was red, and her hair seemed ruffled. She held two tubes in her hands, one was empty whilst the other contained a greenish content.

"Do you know what you just tried to do?!", she was still shouting.

Honestly, I did not know.

"Tele...port?", I said sheepishly.

"What?!"

"I tried to... tele...port, ma'am.", I said, beginning to melt under her intense and fierce gaze.

Was she angry I had tried to leave? Did she think I was deserting my mission?

"Teleport to where?"

"Ohhh...."

I hadn't thought of that. I had presumed I would just be teleported, mayhaps, to the toilet.

"The spell you were casting so well was not a teleportation spell.", her tone her calmed down, but her eyes still glared fiercely at me.

"No, it was.... Wasn't it?", I could feel immense embarrassment rise up my cheeks.

"That was a summoning spell."

"Ohhh.... So that's what the picture meant.", I felt gravely stupid.

"The creature you were summoning is known for the devastating havoc it wrecks on this plane. It is an uncontrollable monster."

"Oluwa egbami.."

The gravity of what I had done was slowly setting in.

"Wait... Did you say, 'This Plane'?"

"Yes."

"What did you mean?", I asked fearfully.

She sighed and sat down.

"Our world is made up of different- diverse planes. Realms, if you may."

"Like the spirit realm?"

"Yes. Like the Spirit Realm."

She placed the tubes in my hands.

"The activities of the physical plane we walk upon have been decided on in the Spirit Realm."

"What do you mean?"

"What I am saying is that, nothing goes on here without having first, been finalized there."

"Uh-"

"Humans, animals, plants, werewolves, vampires, elves, dragons- we all operate on this plane; the Physical Realm. Many are oblivious of the significance of the Spirit Realm- Some don't even know it exists."

I was playing with the tubes, spinning the greenish content round and round. She stopped talking, looking at me.

"Go on, please.", I said quietly as I sheepishly placed the tubes carefully on my lap.

"Just as we have humans here on this plane, there are creatures that exist on the other planes- powerful beings, stronger than you can ever imagine."

"Like Superman?"

"I said, 'Stronger than you can ever imagine.'"

"Oh Ok."

"It is because of these planes we have access to magic. Witches, Soothsayers, Elves, Prophets, Pastors, and the likes of them, all draw their power from the Spirit Realm. Their knowledge of the Spirit Realm enables them maneuver their way through this physical plane- granting them privileges not common to the average man."

"What kind of creatures exist in the Spirit Realm?"

"Demons, Spirits, Angels, and so on. Our planes are intertwined and greatly connected. That is why we can tap and draw power from the other realms. It also allows interference from the other realms on our plane too- like demonic possession, visions, etc."

"Wow....and I. Were do I draw power from?"

"The source of your power comes from all the realms. It is because of this that you can travel freely between the planes. On this plane, you are the most powerful creature- but the creatures of this plane are nothing compared to the things that exist out there."

"So, I'm like a local champion."

"Exactly. But, you can be a lot more- if only you can master your abilities."

"That is what I am trying to do, Sylvia."

"I know, but you will not succeed on your own."

"Why?"

"Your essence had been tampered with- soiled."

"How?!", I asked in utter dismay and shock.

"There are a couple of things that could have caused that; manipulation from the spirits, sex, personal interference-"

"Wait. Did you say, 'Sex'?."

"Yes. You really have to stop interrupting me all the time, Lord Tobi."

"Sorry..but, how does sex soil one's essence?"

"Sex, contrary to what is popularly conceived on this plane, is a contract between souls in the Spirit Realm. It is the most efficient and permanent way to transfer the essence of a soul to another..... The tubes in your hands are to determine the cause of the interference- soiling."

She stopped for a bit, looking at me in the eye. She took the tubes, spinning them as she resumed talking.

"You will drink the potion in this tube, and urinate in this other tube."

"What if I don't feel like urinating-"

"It is magic. Believe me, you will feel like urinating."

"Motigbo oh."

"If it is white, the interference is personal. If it is yellow, it is from spiritual manipulation. If it is red, it is from sexual transfer of essence. And if it is green, it is from heavenly interference."

She gave me back the tubes, and edged me on to swallow the greenish content. Slowly, I brought my hand to my lips. The stench that the potion produced was more disastrous than a rotten egg. I swallowed. A tear rolled down my face.

"I don't feel like urinating.", I said, struggling not to taste my own saliva.

She smiled.

As if all the water I had taken since I was a baby had been flushed down at once into my bladder, I felt the sudden intense need to urinate. Queen Sylvia ensured I carried the empty tube with me as I ran towards the toilet she had pointed at. I unzipped, jumping from one leg to another, struggling not to spill the contents of my bladder all over my body. I urinated into the toilet, remembering almost too late. Ahh! I quickly poured the remaining contents into the tube. It was white.

I walked back to her, and handed the tube to her.

"Oh well then, that's not too bad.", she said with a smile of relief plastered on her face.

She turned to leave when she stopped in her tracks, her body tensing up.

"What? What happened?"

She turned to face me, her facial expression overridden with horror.

The urine was red.
