Chapter 43 - 5

I was fortunate that Xu Ze followed my instructions.

When I awoke in the hospital, Xu Ze approached my bedside and softly informed me that he had told the embassy that I had not made it through the journey to the hospital and had passed away.

"Of course, they were eager to help transport your body back home, constantly calling me. I had no choice but to make excuses and delay them..." His brow furrowed slightly, a look of helplessness crossing his face.

Though my body was frail, nearly devoid of strength, something suddenly struck me, and I hurriedly asked, "Could this cause you any trouble?"

"It shouldn't... I have plenty of phone numbers at hand, they won't be able to trace it back to me. But..." he hesitated, his words trailing off.

"You don't want the embassy to know the truth?" Xu Ze asked, his face puzzled, his eyes filled with confusion. "What are you after? Are you still trying to protect your ex-husband?"

I gently shook my head, my answer the complete opposite.

For, through the phone call Xu Ze had made to the embassy, I had confirmed a crucial piece of information:

When Xu Ze urgently sought help from the embassy that day, the situation was dire, and he only had time to briefly inform them that I had been buried alive by local militias, providing them with the affiliations and contact information of the armed forces involved.

As for why I had been buried alive, who the mastermind behind it all was—Xu Ze, pressed for time, had not been able to elaborate. He had to quickly end the call, desperate to use what little time remained to intercept my best friend.

Fortunately, the arrangements I made before falling unconscious had come into effect, successfully preventing him from divulging everything.

Now, aside from Xu Ze and myself, no one else knew the truth—my ex-husband was the real culprit behind it all!

He remained at large, enjoying his freedom, and that very freedom was the key to my plan of revenge!
