Raphael's POV (Phoenix's Mate):
'Mate,' Atticus, my wolf, spoke inwardly to me.
I knew she smelt delicious the moment I caught her scent. It was drawing me in every second I was around her, but Atti hadn't confirmed the bond until now.
Was she trying to hide her wolf from me?
What kind of she-wolf doesn't want their mate?
My eyes swirled at the sight before me; I wanted to walk towards her. I needed to be closer.
"Wow," was all I could manage to say, just above a whisper.
She was pure white with vivid purple streaks through her fur. Her eyes glowed, pulsing a violet-purple, and I couldn't move away from them.
She stood there in a defensive stance like a warrior princess, and I wanted nothing more than to touch her beautiful fur.
"I... I don't think I've ever seen something ... Your white fur... Your eyes..." I trailed off, mesmerized by her.
'Mate,' Atti purred.
"Please don't run," I said. No, I was practically begging as I watched her nervously look around.
And, of course, she did what I had asked her not to do. She bolted, tearing through the tent. Atti growled at me as I stood there dumbfounded.
'GET HER!' Atti screamed, snapping me back into reality.
Before I could blink, Atti had taken control; my paws were hitting the ground as fast as I could. I could see the moon's glimmer on her beautiful fur ahead of me. I narrowed my eyes, watching her impossibly quick and precise movements.
I growled in satisfaction as I realized I was gaining on her. My muscles burned with exertion as I pushed myself to the limits. I was King Alpha of the Western Wolves, after all, I was confident, and I was closing in on her.
I watched as she looked back at me. There was something mysterious in how her eyes glinted briefly before she turned her attention back in front of her.
Phoenix's POV:
'Shit, Nat, he is gaining on us,' I rasped inwardly.
I focused on the small empty space roughly 300 yards ahead. I narrowed my eyes, closing them tightly as I blinked. When my eyes opened, I was directly in the space that I had focused on.
Score.
When I looked back, he was further away.
'Phew,' I whispered with a satisfied inner grin. 'So now you decide to use some of our power,' Nat says sarcastically. 'Hey now, I have used it during our training!' I argued back at her.
I started laughing inwardly as I looked back at him. How the hell is he getting closer? I wondered in amusement. This was fun. I was having fun.
'Damn, he is fast,' I spoke to Nat with a giggle. 'Oh, he is more than that,' Nat mewed. 'Are you... Are you turned on right now?' I asked, already knowing what she was feeling.
I quickly tuned Nat out before she could respond. I was darting through the trees, and the feeling of my paws beating against the ground calmed me.
I was focused on only this for the first time, and it felt immaculate.
We chased each other, weaving in and out of the trees. It was no longer a game of cat and mouse.
It was almost as if we were dancing, with our hearts beating to the same rhythm. His presence was like a tether that held me, allowing me to go only so far away from him.
This was no longer a chase but a courtship.
I looked back, seeing him dart in another direction.
I sighed, somewhat relieved but emptier from losing him in my vision, but I continued to run forward.
I had escaped.
Raphael's POV:
"Whaaat?" I thought in confusion, blinking rapidly after seeing her further and further away in the blink of an eye.
My blood started to boil in frustration.
'GET HER!' Atti growls again.
I quickened my pace. The royal blood in my body burst into its seams as I ran further and faster.
I needed her.
I had many questions, but my focus and goal were at the forefront. It was dark aside from the moon peering between the tall trees, but it wasn't hard to see her glowing white fur reflecting off the moon in front of me.
'She thinks she lost me,' I chuckled inwardly. Atti chuckled back at the thought.
This beauty didn't realize what it meant that she was on my territory. I knew this land like the back of my paw and I was using it to my own advantage.
I had darted around a corner of a nearby hill, knowing the trees would become thick and hard to run through straight ahead. The path I took was simpler. I would be able to cut her off up ahead.
As I ran around the edge of the hill, I saw her racing through the thick forest from the corner of my eye. I lunged toward her, pummeling into the side of her.
I really didn't mean to hit her that hard, but apparently, my desire to make sure she didn't get away overcame me. I watched in horror as a tree branch scraped across her face.
I whimpered at the site. I seriously whimpered like a pup. Her smell was overbearing in the best way possible.
Freshly baked and frosted vanilla cupcakes. It's the only dessert I've ever enjoyed.
This woman was going to be the death of me.
