As we walked back to our dorm, I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were being watched. The man in the library had been just the beginning. We were now in a game of cat and mouse, where the stakes were higher than ever before.
Just as we were approaching our dorm, I heard a voice behind us. "Hey, Jack. Sophia."
We turned to see Alexander walking towards us, a look of concern on his face. "What's going on?" he asked, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.
"We were followed," Jack explained, his voice low. "Some guy was tailing us from the library."
Alexander's expression turned grim. "I think I know who might be behind it," he said. "My father's been acting strange lately. I think he might be involved in the conspiracy."
My eyes widened in surprise. Alexander's father was a powerful businessman, and if he was involved in the conspiracy, it would explain a lot.
"What makes you think that?" Jack asked, his eyes narrowing.
Alexander hesitated before speaking. "I overheard him talking to someone on the phone. They were discussing something in code, but it sounded suspicious."
I felt a surge of hope. If Alexander's father was involved, that meant we had an unexpected ally. Alexander could help us get to the bottom of the conspiracy.
"Alexander, can you help us?" I asked, my voice filled with urgency.
Alexander nodded, his expression determined. "I'll do whatever it takes to bring them down," he said. "My father's involvement in this conspiracy is a betrayal of everything I thought he stood for."
Together, the three of us began to formulate a plan. We would use Alexander's connections to gather more evidence, and then we would take it to the authorities.
As we walked back to our dorm, I felt a sense of hope that I hadn't felt in weeks. We were no longer alone in this fight. We had an unexpected ally, and together, we would bring the conspirators to justice.
But as we approached our dorm, I noticed something strange. The door was slightly ajar, and I could have sworn that I had closed it before we left.
My heart began to racing as I pushed open the door and stepped inside. The room was in disarray, with papers scattered all over the floor.
And then I saw it. A note, taped to the wall, with a message that made my blood run cold.
"You'll never win," it read. "We'll always be one step ahead of you."
I felt a chill run down my spine as I turned to Jack and Alexander. "We've been warned," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
But I knew that we couldn't back down now. We had to keep fighting, no matter what dangers lay ahead.
And so, with a newfound sense of determination, we began to clean up the mess and formulate our next move. We would not be intimidated. We would bring the conspirators to justice, no matter what it took.
