Chapter 4 - 4 - The Demon

[Azardus]

Never have I ever in my life did I imagine to get entangled with a girl, more so if that girl is someone whose face I cannot see. Yet, here we are, back in the same old scene, the same old fields, same old feelings.

She was amused. Her hair flutters around the wind as she twirls herself around the lovely meadows. Her hearty laugh sounded like music and her purity radiated into the breeze, hitting me like a gentle wind.

She noticed my presence and giggled even more. Her hand gestured for me to come. Before I knew it, I was walking towards her. I was only a step away from her but someone just had to call me.

"My Lord. My Lord? Are you awake?"

My eyes twitched as the sunlight seeped through the glass windows, focusing its brightness on my eyes. I looked around and saw Theo brewing some tea on my table.

I groaned in annoyance and pulled the blanket over my head.

"My Lord, drink this tea. It will help you with your hangover."

Even without looking into him, I could already imagine the humble and respectable look he was giving me. He knows I have been quite the sloth lately and his demeanor is just his way of showing that I am a respected figure so I should act like one. So daring of him.

"I will just sleep it off, Theo. And I declare myself on a hiatus. See yourself out of my room, please."

Yet, his presence remained. He coughed a few times before speaking again.

"My Lord, a letter has arrived. Would you please check it so I can make the necessary arrangements if ever you need one?"

My forehead creased. It is not so often I receive a letter because I am a madman. Whoever wrote this letter, I shall make sure to make him remember who he is dealing with.

I am still pissed off by Theo disrupting my dream.

Theo handed me the letter and I slid myself up to read it. At the sight of the written title on the envelope, I immediately crumpled the paper and threw it at the far-off side of my room.

"It's just one of those social climbing families attempting to get on my good side."

Theo picked up that trash and read the letter himself.

"My Lord, it says here that there is a gathering happening in two weeks. You're not coming?"

I smirked.

"Of course, I am. Someone has yet to pay his debt."

"But there would be witches." He coughed two times as if he had choked. "I thought you hate witches."

My eyes glared at Theo. He is asking too many questions and peaking into my life deeper than he should have. It might have been my fault since I have let him do as he pleases as I have come to be comfortable with him with his loyalty. However, I guess I should remind him that he's a human and I am not.

As if he knew what was coming, he left through the doors hastily.

I got over the covers and went to sip some tea Theo had prepared. It did not take long before I got into my breeches and strolled the hallways to the back of the chateau.

Behind the chateau lies a well so deep yet so useless. It does not provide water for us but it's useful to me in some way.

Without hesitation, I jumped to the depths of the well. At its deepest lies a doorway, a tunnel to my secret haven, a place for my pleasures. After a few steps, I finally reached the door. I immediately smiled as I was greeted by a wonderful sight.

"You're looking good today, Natalia."

I looked around the massive room and it seemed that it was getting a little too old. I might have to renovate this myself. And while I was enjoying my little tour of my chamber, I could feel a minute presence of someone, probably on the verge of dying, shooting me daggers.

I caught a loose nail on the wall and flung it to her eye. Her silent wail echoed inside these four walls, pleasing my ears like a sonata.

Fine, I recognize her efforts for acting so brave and refusing to give me the satisfaction of her pain but she is just a failure.

"Natalia, how many times do I have to tell you, just tell me who destroyed my little farm in Kosavach and I will give you liberty. It is so simple."

I took pride in sitting on my throne in front of her, watching as blood oozed from her left eye and as she bit her lips to suppress the pain.

"You are pointing fingers in the wrong direction, devil bastard. We, witches, do not want to have anything to do with you!"

My eyebrows perked up.

"Yet, my ability to see into the past tells otherwise. It was YOU in there. You were talking to someone, most likely your master, and she told you that you did a perfectly great job."

This woman… she is lucky to still be breathing. It's been a few days. Usually, people like her who have their courage misplaced in going against me have their heads off of their shoulders in minutes. However, something told me that I should make an exemption for her. And now, that something is proven wrong because she has not spilled a single bean since her coming here.

That farm of mine was no space for rice or crops. It was a farm of meat, fresh people of the opposite sex who served me as I liked it—either pleasure or pain. And witches… these witches just had to set my harvest free and burn my farm.

To be fair, they were just probably helping their fellows since most of them were witches. But then, their kind started them all. Their kind started a fight that led me to think they deserved what they were getting.

"You are getting nothing from me, bastard! Blame your incompetence for not breaking through the spell of concealment!"

What a fiery tongue she's got.

With a single snap, a circle of fire emerges from the ground. Its flame was burning through the walls, the smoke engulfing the place and the heat clawing its way into the skin. I harvested some of the fire and transferred it to the wooden chair she'd been tied to.

I saw panic revealed on her face, but my patience had already been lost.

"See you in hell, witch."

With that, I walked back to the door and left her burning alive. I was never kind to let my enemies die immediately. I always make them suffer.

Well, if I am not going to get something from her then I shall go do it myself. Surely, I can squeeze some time into my schedule for witch-hunting.

If they want to play, then I will play. Whatever their kind has done will be paid for by another of their kind.

An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. Do not make the devil mad or he will break you.
