02:20AM
Alex was on night duty. Walking around the building with a gun all night, going to the rooftop then to lower levels, repeating in a circle. But there was luckily nothing, and unfortunately no one alive was seen. That attack from today shivered him but at least it was just one time. He sat on a closed barrel and lit his cigarette, smoking it peacefully. However, some noises were heard from the left, causing him to immediately pull out his gun. But then, something unexpected happened.
"it's me." The blonde hair is the first thing Alex sees in the completely dark. Even when she hides in the shadows, Vanessa is visible. Her pale skin and light hair are just like snowflakes. During the winter she easily camouflaged outside.
"You little shit, I almost shoot."
"I knew you won't shoot until you saw what is it."
"Why did you come here alone it's dangerous, I told you never to walk here at night, just to the toilet and back to the room."
"Nothing happened so that doesn't matter." Vanessa showed him with her fingers that she needed a lighter for her cigarette.
"You little.....how are they?"
"Sleeping, snoring... Disgusting men."
"Let them, they are tired. Imagine how much they had to walk to get here. Owen must be dead for trying to get in the way with Danny."
" You are more than happy, you are doing it again."
"The fuck, quite your manic episode this time will you."
" Yeah Yeah sure, I know you, Alex. You never forget it."
"I told you it's over with that conversation. I am more than tired and listening to this shit again won't do anything. Of course, you know me. But let me handle this."
"It's your thing I get it. But listen to me, If I see you suffer one more time just because of something you said you could handle but can't. Someone won't have a happy ending."
Alex rubbed Vanessa's hair and smiled at her, he didn't want to argue with his best friend. He knew she was telling the truth, and he was more than aware of everything that happened before.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine."
"You always say that."
"And I make it believable, come on it's pretty cold. I'll walk you to the room."
"Why don't you go with me, If nothing happens now It won't for another three hours."
"You never know, it's better to be 100% sure than to sleep with one eye open"
And that's how it was, Alex walked Vanessa to room and went back to walk around the building till the sun rose, it's usually about 5:20 AM. He went to the room and found Vanessa on armchair and the guys lying on a couch. He took the opportunity and took blankets from the cabinet. He covered Vanessa with her blanket and somehow laid his on both Owen and Danny. He did it because it was getting cold in the morning and he was warmed up pretty much by moving around all night so he sat on the chair and laid his head on table as the last step. When the morning set up and sunlight went its way through a small window in the room, it was what they call a safe zone. Zombies that didn't hide somewhere were dead in their ash, but there was some strange information. Scientists from F3 came with another examination that zombies that hid their heads in wet ground or even drowned in the canal or any water, might survived. However, they are most likely to adopt another physical look that could be described as head of fungus or plant-like. Still, there is no cure for infected people who have a chance to survive, not even from normal zombies. The morning was pretty calm, since Alex was sleeping Vanessa stayed in the room and Owen and Danny went out of fabrics. Danny saw an axe in the hallway and took it with him, they had an idea. Since it gets colder and they didn't freeze this morning because of Alex, they went out to cut some trees for fire.
"I still don't understand, how will you make a fire in that room without burning something or easily blowing it off genius."
"Have you seen those metal oil barrels in the halls?"
"So what, there is no oil in it, it abounded for a long time."
"Yeah, but I can make some kind of heater that will hold the hot temperature more time and even use the whole wood for energy so it would be enough for half of the night." Danny explained it to Owen as he found the right birch tree and with little time cut it out.
" I always forgot that you look like walking flesh but still can cut a tree."
"I use my brain strength more so" Danny threw an axe to Owen, and luckily Owen had some reflex to catch it and not cut himself.
"THE FUCK YOU IDIOT, DON'T THROW AN AXE TO ME."
"But you catch it so, it's your turn." Danny went to another tree, sat on the ground, and leaned against a tree. Owen took the axe and started cutting the tree into small pieces.
"How will you manage to make that heater with no equipment."
"I'm an engineer, I'll find out."
"Sure you are an idiotic nerd. And what do you think about this, how will things go."
"What do you mean" Danny stood up and got some wooden packs in his arms just like Owen as they walked back to fabric.
"You know what I'm talking about don't play dumb."
"Just like you said, play dumb."
"That'd be quite stupid from you."
"And what should I do? Tell me then, I haven't thought about it since high school."
"Yeah sure you can lie to yourself but not me, It's time to get real now."
"Look it's not time to talk about it right now, we are trying to survive and that can wait."
"Can wait, sometimes you are stupid as fuck. Danny, we never know when is our last day, don't prolong things that should be talked about."
"I know. I just can't, right now I can't."
"But you will, you have to."
"I hate when I have to start something."
"You will survive, If you get so lame I will let zombies eat you."
"Thanks for wonderful support."
They went back to fabrics, and when they entered the room it was quiet. Vanessa was sitting on an armchair and adjusting her nail size with a small file while Alex was sitting at a table with a big map, a pencil in his right hand, and an energy drink in his left.
"And the quiet time is over now." Vanessa sigh.
"I know you missed us."
"Of course, couldn't leave without you two idiots." Vanessa and Owen were friends, but they couldn't stand each other for more than 2 hours together. They were pretty similar, even got called Twins. But still, times changed and their friendship fell apart after one incident.
" Is this the plan for moving?" Danny left wooden packs on the floor and looked at Alex's marked directions on a map, scanning it all.
"Yeah, I'm making some sort of plan."
"Forget about this, we won't be able to survive in F2, it's better to go around. Straight forward to F3." Danny leaned his hand from behind Alex and pointed on the map the direction they should follow.
" How's that even possible when F3 is way more dangerous than F2." Alex was feeling incredibly confused at this moment, fearing that Danny's intentions were to get all of them killed easily.
"The government is lying, they said F1 and F2 are the least dangerous. There are way more attacks because the army in F3 didn't manage to kill all of them, instead, they scared them with lights from F3 border to F2." Danny pointed to all the places where the transition secretly happened between F3 and F2.
"Where did you get that information?" Alex asked.
"You remember my classmate, Pablo, he is in the 1st army division. He told us to go from Viltar as fast as we can."
"Well then, we will make something up. But of course, some things will be discussed, this is way more serious than a zombie game turned on level hard."
" It's extreme." Danny added, making both of them slightly laugh.
"And no reboot health, oh yeah, in conclusion. We are fucked up." Alex replayed.
"Look who's talking again." Owen
"Did you two already have your gossip pause?" Alex asked.
"Not still." Vanessa added making a sarcastic sad face.
"Not still but now we will." Owen stood up from the couch and grabbed Vanessa by the wrist. He quickly pulled her up from her chair and guided her to the door.
"STOP PUSHING ME." Vanessa
"Come on Vanessie, we have a lot to talk about." As Owen was passing by Danny he hit his leg softly and invisibly so no one could see it but Danny could feel it. And that was Danny's sign from Owen, nothing since Owen started talking wasn't a coincidence. He is more cunning than a fox, he knows what he's doing and how to get people to follow his story by script.
