The rogue attack had shaken the entire mansion. Even now, days later, the lingering scent of blood and burnt wood clung to the air. We underestimated how much was damage was done. Nathan and I tried to measure up the amount of damage and it turned out some families lost their home and others their source of livelihood. The attack came as a surprise and it looked like it was an inside job. I didn't know how to feel and I knew that I saved Nathan and all that but I couldn't help but feel responsible for everything that has transpired.
Servants whispered about the ambush, about how close the wolves had come to taking taking me hostage. Rumours about the relic was already spreading and it created a certain doubt in me. It seems that so many people knew about the prophecy more than me. It was not just surprising but frustrating too. Even with all of this, the thing that haunted me the most wasn't the attack itself.
It was me.
