Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE

As the sun rose, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, Emma got ready for her second day at Brightstar Enterprises. When she entered the living room, she found her father sitting in front of the TV, worry written all over his face. The news was reporting a string of mysterious deaths from the night before—bodies drained of blood, their faces frozen in terror.

Emma's heart skipped a beat as the grim story unfolded. The city didn't feel safe anymore, especially at night.

Her father turned to her, his voice full of concern. "Emma, please be careful. Don't walk through dark areas, and don't talk to strangers. Something terrible is happening in this city, and it gives me chills. I mean, how can a normal death look like that? What is going on?"

"I will, Dad," Emma promised. "I'll be careful."

With a heavy heart, she left for work, but the news weighed on her mind. The bustling city, which once felt lively, now seemed darker, hiding dangers around every corner.

When night came and work ended, Emma walked home quickly, avoiding dark streets and suspicious corners. Every sound—the rustling of leaves or the echo of footsteps—made her jump she prayed silently not wishing for a monster to pop right in her face.

Back in her apartment, her father's warnings echoed in her mind. She vowed to stay alert and safe, not knowing that the darkness outside was far more dangerous than she could imagine.

The city was alive with stories of hidden creatures and dangers waiting to be revealed. Emma, unknowingly, was heading to those secrets—a challenge that would test her strength and courage.

Far from the city's bustling streets stood Alexander Blackwood's mansion, an eerie and grand place surrounded by ancient trees and wild vines. Its tall spires reached into the sky like dark claws, and its walls seemed to whisper secrets of long-forgotten times.

Inside, the mansion was both beautiful and unsettling. The rooms were filled with old paintings, dusty books, and the flickering light of candles that cast long, haunting shadows.

Alexander sat on a plush red couch, his sharp eyes blazing with hunger. Beside him was a woman, her delicate features entranced by his charm. She was only a fleeting distraction for him, a temporary escape from the darkness that consumed him.

As the night wore on, her laughter filled the room until Alexander's demeanor changed. His playful charm disappeared, replaced by cold determination. In a swift motion, he ended her life, his sharp fangs sinking into her neck. The room echoed with the sounds of struggle, but it was over quickly.

The woman's lifeless body lay on the floor.

Alexander stood, his eyes empty of guilt. His servant, Alistair, another vampire bound to him by loyalty, stepped out of the shadows. Silently, they worked together to get rid of the evidence, their actions practiced and emotionless.

Once the task was done, Alexander retreated to his study, where ancient books and artifacts surrounded him. Alistair followed, his calm demeanor matching his master's.

"Alistair," Alexander said, his voice smooth but firm. "The city is paying attention. These recent deaths have everyone on edge. We must be careful."

"As always, I've left no traces," Alistair replied. "No one will suspect anything."

Alexander nodded but remained uneasy. "I sense something else—a disturbance. Keep watch. We might have an intruder in our domain."

"I'll stay alert," Alistair assured him.

The two vampires parted, moving through the dark halls of the mansion.

Outside, the city remained unaware of the dangers lurking in the mansion and its master's secrets. Alexander's past was a tangled web of memories and regrets, whispers of a life once filled with charm and deception. Now, in the darkness of his present, he prepared for the unknown, his immortal life tied to secrets he could never escape.

Emma stood outside Mr. Harris' office, her heart pounding in her chest. The weight of her nerves seemed to intensify with each step she took. She hesitated for a moment, trying to gather her courage, before finally knocking on the door.

"Come in," Mr. Harris's voice, calm and reassuring, floated through the door.

As Emma entered, she found Mr. Harris sitting behind his desk, his warm eyes regarding her kindly. She managed a small smile, feeling a strange sense of comfort in his presence.

"Mr. Harris," Emma began hesitantly, "I'm incredibly nervous about cleaning Mr. Blackwood's office again. I fear making another mistake. I literally cried. I'm so embarrassed sir."

Mr. Harris offered her a gentle smile, his voice softening. "Emma, it's natural to feel nervous, especially given the circumstances. But you have a strength within you that you might not even realize. Trust in your abilities, and remember, mistakes are a part of learning. What's important is how you handle them and learn from them."

Emma nodded, his words sinking in. "I'll try my best, Mr. Harris. I just hope I can meet Mr. Blackwood's expectations. I don't want him firing me from this job. It's my only hope for now."

"You have a unique quality about you, Emma," Mr. Harris said, his gaze thoughtful. "I've seen many come and go in this company, but there's something different in the way you carry yourself. Trust in your instincts, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. We're all here to support you."

Emma felt a sense of gratitude wash over her. "Thank you, Mr. Harris. I appreciate your guidance and support. I'll do my best."

With a reassuring nod, Mr. Harris smiled at her. "I believe in you, Emma. Remember , you jib is as important and everyone's in this company. Now, go and face your challenges with confidence. And remember, no matter what happens, you can always come to me."

Emma left Mr. Harris' office, her nerves still present but still feeling a little confident . As she made her way to clean Alexander Blackwood's office once again, she carried Mr. Harris's words with her, finding strength in his belief in her abilities.

Emma hesitated for a moment outside Alexander Blackwood's office, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. With newfound determination, she pushed the door open and stepped inside. The office, adorned in rich mahogany and dimly lit by the soft glow of antique lamps, felt both intimidating and strangely enchanting.

Alexander, immersed in his work, looked up as she entered. His piercing gaze met hers, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. Emma's beauty struck him like a sudden gust of wind, leaving him momentarily breathless.

She possessed an ethereal quality, her eyes a shade of deep, enchanting hazel that seemed to hold a universe of secrets. They sparkled with a mix of curiosity and determination, reflecting her resilient spirit. Her hair, cascaded in soft waves down her back, framing her delicate features with a touch of mystery.

Her skin, as pale as moonlight, seemed to glow in the dim office, accentuating the subtle flush of her cheeks. There was an elegance in her every movement, a grace . In that moment, she was a portrait of beauty.

As Alexander observed her, he found himself captivated not only by her physical looks but also by the spark of courage in her eyes. It was a combination that both intrigued and unnerved him, awakening emotions he had long buried beneath his immortal exterior. He didn't feel that way when he had seen her days ago.

What was happening to him?
