Chapter 18 - Dream Trip

The weekend arrived, and the group gathered in front of the house early in the morning, bags in tow and excitement in the air. Saint stood by a rented van, handing out snacks and water bottles like a self-appointed trip guide."Alright, everyone!" he said, clapping his hands. "Our destination is a cozy cabin in the mountains, with the freshest air you'll ever breathe, a hot spring to soak in, and views that'll make your Instagram blow up!""Saint," Tina said, raising an eyebrow. "It's too early for you to act like a travel agent. Just drive."Saint pouted but didn't argue, helping Sia load the last of the bags into the back of the van.Ling and Orm arrived last, Ling looking calm and collected while Orm yawned loudly, still half-asleep."Morning, sunshine," Ling teased, nudging Orm's shoulder.Orm gave her a sleepy glare. "It's not morning. It's torture."Ling smirked. "You insisted on this trip, remember?""Don't remind me," Orm grumbled, dragging her bag behind her like it weighed a ton."Okay, lovebirds, into the van!" Sia called, waving them over.Orm perked up slightly at the comment. "We're not lovebirds.""Sure you're not," Sia said, smirking. The van was packed, with Saint driving, Sia in the passenger seat, and the others crammed into the back. Orm had managed to snag the seat beside Ling, and the two quickly claimed the small window for themselves."Snack?" Ling offered, holding out a bag of chips.Orm grabbed a handful and immediately stuffed them in her mouth. "You're the best.""Slow down," Ling said, laughing. "I didn't bring this whole bag just for you."As the van sped down the highway, the group broke into laughter and chatter. Tina and Sia started a game of "spot the weirdest billboard," while Nod kept pulling out his phone to play obnoxious road trip playlists."Can we not listen to this?" Ling asked after the third bubblegum pop song blared through the speakers."It's a classic!" Nod argued, turning up the volume.Orm leaned into Ling. "You could just hold my hand and ignore him," she whispered, grinning.Ling rolled her eyes but took Orm's hand anyway. After hours of driving, the van finally pulled up to a wooden cabin nestled in the mountains. The air was crisp and cool, with the scent of pine trees all around. A small stream trickled nearby, and the view of the surrounding peaks was breathtaking."Wow," Tina said, stepping out of the van and stretching. "This is… actually nice.""Of course it is," Saint said proudly. "I picked it."Sia smacked his arm lightly. "Don't let it go to your head."Ling and Orm stepped out together, both taking a moment to soak in the beauty around them. Orm let out a low whistle. "Not bad, Saint. You might actually be good at this.""Thank you!" Saint said, bowing dramatically."Alright," Sia said, clapping her hands. "Let's unload and pick rooms. First come, first served!"Orm grabbed Ling's hand and bolted toward the cabin. "Come on! We're getting the best room!""Orm!" Ling protested, laughing as she was dragged along. The inside of the cabin was cozy, with warm wooden walls, plush rugs, and a stone fireplace in the living room. There were four bedrooms, all equally sized, but that didn't stop the chaos of picking rooms."I want this one!" Orm announced, throwing her bag onto one of the beds."No way!" Tina said, glaring at her. "We got here first!""You literally didn't!" Orm argued.Sia stepped in, her voice calm but firm. "Okay, how about this: couples share rooms. Ling and Orm in one, Tina and me in another, and Saint can sleep on the couch.""Why am I on the couch?!" Saint complained."You're the one who planned this," Sia said sweetly. "Consider it your reward."Saint groaned but didn't argue further.Once the bags were unpacked, everyone settled into their rooms. Ling sat on the bed, flipping through her phone while Orm lay beside her, staring at the ceiling."You know," Orm said, breaking the silence, "this place is kind of romantic."Ling glanced at her. "Oh? Planning something?"Orm grinned, rolling over to rest her head on Ling's shoulder. "Maybe. Or maybe I'm just waiting for you to sweep me off my feet."Ling smirked, her hand lightly brushing Orm's hair. "You're so dramatic.""And you're so mean," Orm replied, pouting."Mean?" Ling repeated, her voice teasing. "How am I mean?""You're not sweeping me off my feet," Orm said, sticking out her tongue.Ling laughed, leaning down to kiss Orm's forehead. "Better?""A little," Orm said, closing her eyes with a content sigh. That evening, the group gathered in the cabin's dining area for dinner. Saint had brought pre-prepared meals, which everyone heated up and shared."Not bad," Sia said, taking a bite. "You're not completely useless, Saint.""High praise," Saint said, grinning.Orm and Ling, meanwhile, were busy having their own private conversation at the end of the table."Want to bet who'll fall asleep first tonight?" Orm whispered."Probably you," Ling said, smirking."No way!" Orm said. "I'll outlast all of you.""We'll see," Ling said, her tone light and playful. After dinner, the group gathered in the living room, playing board games and telling stories late into the night. Orm and Ling stayed close, their hands brushing occasionally as they laughed with the others. As the night wound down, Ling and Orm returned to their room, both feeling a sense of peace. Orm flopped onto the bed, sighing dramatically."This is nice," she said. "No school, no stress, just us."Ling sat beside her, brushing a strand of hair from Orm's face. "You're right. It is nice."Orm grinned, pulling Ling down beside her. "Promise me we'll make the most of this trip."Ling smiled, leaning in to kiss her softly. "I promise."And as the stars twinkled outside, the two of them fell asleep, their hearts full of happiness and anticipation for the days ahead.
