My feet were jelly beneath me, as I recalled the cold look on his face as he turned abruptly on his heels leaving me there with my ears ringing and tears pouring like water, recalling he force of his words made me sit on the floor without even caring about the wetness, once again i burst into tears, I quickly got up from the ground my rejection would be worse if anyone found out about my confession , I felt as if someone was stabbing and twisting a knife in my heart, is this how it felt to be turned down? I felt horrible like I should just go die, and so, so embarrassed, I threw the chocolate into the nearest bin.
The rest of the day went past in a blur, of course i skipped sports and i wasn't missed. The classes did not interest me I couldn't get my thought together, I was skipping all my classes, immediately the bell went off to signify the end of classes, I grabbed my school bag and ran off without waiting for anyone but in front of the hall waiting patiently for me was Nancy and Diana.
" where have you been, no don't tell me he rejected you right"? Nancy asked in that sultry voice of hers, if not for the look of concern in her eyes I would have sworn she was mocking me. Yes, I replied feeling ashamed all over again the tears won't stop pouring,I was pulled into warm embrace , I was already starting to draw the attention of half the school luckily, my driver came to pick me up, Nancy and Diana decided to join in before I did something stupid although I doubted I had any fight left in me.
Maya brought In some soup and freshly baked bread for us, and we all eat in silence, I played with the food served before me when Maya came in she noticed my pale face "what's wrong?are you sick?". Nancy smirked while I tried to find a convincing lie for my apparent lack of appetite and pale features. Finally, Diana came to my aid," she was having a tummy upset, but she's fine now".
Maya sympathized with me and asked if I needed anything when I told her I was fine she left my friends and I to eat in peace."Wow, Leila, your nanny is a perfect cook Nancy exclaimed"!," you better cheer up sweetie your nanny (coughs obviously fake) sorry housekeeper didn't believe a single word that came out those cherry red lips of yours so you better cheer up and eat your food you're not the first person to get dumped.
(haha, haha) I chuckled at her mocking tone, she was referring to the fact that I still acted like a baby and she was kind of right, so I decided to loosen up and have fun with my friends facing her I clarified the statement she made indirectly. No Maya
is not a good cook, in fact she's a terrible cook. We actually have a chef that prepares all the meals, while she heats them up in the microwave.
Maya and her husband do the laundry. The truth is, my parents are never around. They are here only on festive periods like Xmas and Easter. "Oh! You are so lucky" Diana began but was cut short by me. No am not, they are never there for me, you call that Lucky? You don't know what its like to be all alone.
"Well it doesn't matter anymore, you have us now ". Nancy said pulling Leila into a hug which Diana joined, best friends forever".
We should rest, I suggested still feeling tired, and depressed and do me a favor,both of you.quit crushing me I replied playfully feeling a bit awkward.
"Nope we can't, Diana and Nancy said simultaneously, your training starts today,we need to do sit up to work out this food, or we would blow up". "And you Leila dearie, have to go throw up what you ate". No no, I can't do that, "Do you want max or not? Nancy asked", I do. "Then this is a very small price you have to pay".
Fine! I exclaimed, what do you want me to do? When you get to the washroom, just shove your hands down your throat and get rid of it. When you are done throwing up the food, you come join us for sit-ups. You have to do it till you stop eating too much or you get used to it, your choice really.Diana smiled nicely and "mouthed sorry, I was in your shoes once, it gets better really".
"Show her Diana" please no, no, no, I can't do that, that's really disgusting is there no other way I argued, but eventually I relented and Nancy showed me what to do, and we all laughed and joked about it, their obvious friendship and likeness for me made it easier. After I did as I was told, I came to sit with them after of course thoroughly brushing and getting rid of the sour taste.
It was disgusting but I was willing to change, I was willing to do everything within my power to change myself from how pathetic I was to someone beautiful, desirable and someone that could turn heads.
" Leila do you have anything to drink" Nancy asked smiling? Yes water and juice. "Nope Nancy said laughing, things like wine or at least whiskey". "gosh Leila where on earth have you been living who still drinks that for fun? Your such an overgrown baby". frustrated by their teasing I went to my dad's wine drawer and grabbed three bottles of anything I could find, I didn't want to disappoint my new friends or make them see me as a loser, I would rather die than go back to where I was.
The rain suddenly started while we had fun enjoying ourselves and dancing to crappy music, which felt exciting, it was nice to dull my senses from the gloom of the day, I was scared about tomorrow but somehow I knew it would take care of itself. Moreover one thing I wouldn't endeavor to forget was the fact that I was no longer alone and I never would be again, my friends would stand by me and were here you stay.
