Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

My insecurities whispered: you're just a temporary distraction, Rachel's the one he truly wants.

As the darkness seemed to closing in, my grip on reality began to slip. I became convinced: Jordan was lying, deceiving me.

Rachel was waiting, patiently. Paranoia consumed me, my thoughts toxic: what if Jordan leaves me for Rachel?

What if I'm just a rebound? What if he vanishes like Damien?

My breath quickened, my body tense. Jordan stirred, sensing my distress.

Hey what's wrong? I forced a calm tone.

Nothing. Just…restless. Jordan's concerned gaze lingered, but I avoided eye contact.

The silence between us grew thick my suspicions festering.

Days passed…. My paranoia simmering beneath the surface. I began to notice every interaction between Jordan and Rachel: a harmless laugh, a casual touch.

My mind twisted each moment into a betrayal. Jordan sensed the change in me but couldn't pinpoint the cause.

Amelia, what's wrong? Jordan asked, concern etched on his face.

I shrugged hiding my true thoughts. Nothing I'm just stressed

His eyes narrowed. Is it something I did?

My instincts screamed: He's hiding something.

No I said, my tone flat. The silence between us grew, a chasm widening. Jordan tried to bridge the gap, but my defenses were up.

One evening, Jordan received a call from Rachel. My eyes locked onto Jordan, my heart racing.

Who is it? I asked, my voice tight. Jordan hesitated before answering, Rachel.

She needs help with something. My paranoia boiled over. What kind of help?

Jordan's expression turned cautious. Just a friend thing, Amelia.

My anger flared. Save it, Jordan. the conversation ended, tension hanging like a challenge.

Jordan realized my distrust had created a rift.

Days turned into weeks, the tension between Jordan and I palpable.

Conversations became stilted, silences awkward.

Jordan struggled to understand my growing distrust.

One day he finally broke the silence. Amelia what's going on? You're pulling away.

My defenses rose. I'm fine. You're just… distracted.

His frustration mounted. Distracted? By what? Rachel? That's ridiculous.

My eyes flashed. You're always talking to her. What's so special about her?

His voice rose. She's just a friend Amelia, nothing more. My sarcasm cut deep.

Sure Jordan, keep telling me that.

The argument ended, but the rift grew wider.

One evening, I spotted Jordan and Rachel together, across the street, laughing.

My heart shattered. My world crumbled, my mind racing. He's chosen Rachel, I'm just a rebound.

In a daze, I turned and walked away, disappearing into the night.

Jordan, oblivious to Amelia's departure, continued chatting with Rachel. But Rachel's gaze lingered, a knowing glint in her eyes.
