Elenas POV
My heart pounded as I tore through the hall, my ball gown dragging behind me, sweeping the floor. I could hear the soft chime of my car keys jingling in my hand, spurring me forward as I clutched my gown, lifting it to clear the way. My breaths was shallow and quick, I fought an attempt to calm the anger and betrayal storming through me. I had to get out of here—away from him, away from the lies, away from everything.
Elena! Wait! Please, just listen!Jasons voice echoed down the empty corridor, desperation heavy in his tone. But I ignored him. Running faster.
I finally reached my car, phewww!
Fumbling, I pressed the unlock button, the vehicles lights blinking in response. But before I could escape, his hand closed around my wrist, halting me just inches from the door. His touch, which was usually warm and comforting, felt like iron now— it feels different.
Elena, please,Jason pleaded, his gray eyes, usually filled with mystery and allure, now flashing with guilt and worry. Where have you been? Everyones looking for you.He sounded so concerned, as if his worries were justified. But I couldnt bring myself to care. Not now.
I yanked my hand free, my voice sharp with anger. Leave me alone, Jason! Dont stand there acting clueless. You know exactly what youve done. The words came out like a growl.
I didnt want to look at him, to see the remorse on his face, but he stepped closer, persistent, he held my waist.
Elena…please, let me explain,he said, his hand hovering just inches from my shoulder, his gaze pleading, I stepped backwards, I can't let him touch me.
I shook my head, letting out a bitter laugh. Explain?I scoffed, my words trembling with the weight of my frustration. Explain what, Jason… Edward… Campbell…or whatever name you go by?I asked.
Youve been lying to me this whole time! Pretending to be someone else, hiding behind a fake identity. My voice cracked, and I couldnt hold back the hurt. And now you want to act like none of it matters?
The shock on his face faded to sorrow, his eyes softening as he reached out to take my hand, but I jerked back, hitting the unlock button on my keys once more.
The sound of the cars beep was a relief, cutting through the heavy silence between us. Without another word, I pushed past him, my heart breaking as I climbed into my car, slamming the door shut.
Through the blurred haze of my tears, I caught one last glimpse of Jasons face. His lips parted as if he wants to speak but I didnt give him the chance. My foot hit the gas pedal, and I sped away, leaving him—and all the lies—behind.

Jasons POV
I watched Elenas car disappear into the night, the distant red of her taillights fading until they were swallowed up by the darkness. The ache in my chest grew unbearable, a dull, hollow pain that left me rooted to the spot. My mind reeled, replaying the look on her face—hurt, betrayed, shattered. I had caused that. *Me.*
For years, Id played the part of the bachelor, the carefree playboy, never giving my heart away. But Elena changed that. She made me want more—want to be someone worthy of her. And yet, in trying to test her, to make sure she wanted me for who I was and not the wealth or the name, even though she's right too. Id lost her trust entirely.
I clenched my fists, fighting the regret gnawing at me. I hadnt anticipated this, hadnt thought my disguise would hurt her this deeply. *I shouldnt have done it. I shouldve told her the truth.* But now it was too late. She was gone, and I was left standing here, realizing the damage Id done.
My thoughts were interrupted by the smug, infuriating voice of Lucas as he sauntered toward me, his face a mask of mocking satisfaction. So, Jason, hows that plan working out for you?His words were laced with sarcasm, his smile cruel as he took pleasure in my misery.
I forced myself to keep calm, taking a deep breath. Back off, Lucas. Youve got no idea what youre talking about.
Lucas laughed, crossing his arms as he looked down his nose at me. Oh, I think I do. You thought you could keep her with lies and secrets? Look where it got you.He stepped closer, and I could see the glint of malice in his eyes. You might have a ring on her finger, but youll never have her heart. That belongs to me.He smirked, his tone dripping with satisfaction.
A sharp surge of anger pulsed through me, but I kept my jaw clenched, narrowing my eyes as I straightened. Listen closely, Lucas,I said, my voice low and controlled, though I felt like I was barely holding back a storm. You may think you know her, but Elena doesnt belong to you. She chose me, and were engaged. So I suggest you get over it.
Lucas sneered, stepping closer, his face inches from mine. You think a piece of paper and a title make her yours? He let out a dark chuckle. Thats cute. But remember one thing, Jason: *she was my wife first.*
I gritted my teeth, the fury inside me snapping. Correction, Lucas. *Was.* Past tense. You lost her long ago. She's my fiance!
For a moment, we stood there, each daring the other to make a move, the tension thick between us. Then Lucasexpression shifted, his lips curling into a smug smile. Ill win her back, Jason,he hissed, his eyes glinting with a dark promise. I guarantee it.
I couldnt contain my anger any longer. With one swift motion, I swung, my fist connecting with his jaw, sending him stumbling back. Blood dripped from his nose, but he just laughed, straightening and wiping it away with the back of his hand.
Lets see,I growled, stepping back, barely containing my rage. Elena deserves better than someone who couldnt protect her, Lucas. And I wont let anyone, least of all you, take her away from me.
Without waiting for his response, I turned and walked away. I would fix this. Somehow, I would win back Elenas tr
ust. I wouldnt let anyone—even her past—stand in my way.
