Chapter 8 - 8

Aurora's POV

As Lucas stormed into the sitting room, the anger was practically radiating off him. His jaw was clenched, and he barely glanced at me before dropping onto the sofa. The silence between us was tense, and I could feel his irritation simmering, aimed at someone else who is, Elena.

Lucas, are you still angry at… Elena?I asked softly, trying to ease into the conversation, my voice gentle.

His gaze flickered over to me, but he shook his head. Get some rest, Aurora. Well talk tomorrow. His words were short, clipped, and I could tell he was trying to hold back.

I walked a little closer, watching him carefully. I get it—you only just divorced her, and now youve already seen her with two different men. Its hard, isnt it?I paused, adding softly, But, Lucas… Elena never truly loved you.

Lucas looked at me, brow furrowing, taken aback. What are you saying, Aurora?

I held his gaze, steeling myself. She only cared about your money,I said, my hand drifting to his thigh, fingers grazing him gently. But I… Ive always been here for you. Ive always loved you, Lucas.

For a moment, his eyes softened, as though he was considering my words. But then, he exhaled slowly and straightened up, gently moving my hand off him.

Aurora,he said, voice low but steady. Youre important to me, truly. But I can only ever see you as a sister.

The words sliced through me, and I fought to keep my expression neutral, but the hurt was bubbling up fast. He stood up, giving me one last, unreadable look before turning and walking out, leaving me alone in the quiet room.

That stupid Elena! Still In his heart.

My vision blurred as the tears rolled down my eyes, I attempted to blink them away but they couldn't. I didnt know what hurt more—the fact that he still clung to Elena in his heart or that he only saw me as a sister. A sister. After everything, thats all I was to him.

With trembling hands, I grabbed my phone and dialed a number, pressing it to my ear as it rang. The doctors voice answered on the other end.

Hello, Miss Aurora,Dr. Young greeted, sounding calm, professional.

Hi, Doctor Young,I replied, my voice sweet but laced with a hint of something darker. I took a deep breath, my lips curving into a twisted smile. I need a favor from you.

Lucas's POV

I was at work, signing in paperwork, when my phone buzzed. The call was from the hospital, and the world around me seemed to blur as the nurses voice rang loudly.

Aurora fainted, Mr. Lucas. Shes in the hospital.

Without hesitation, I dropped everything and rushed to my car, speeding toward the hospital, my mind racing. The thought of anything happening to her made my stomach churn.

The moment I arrived, I went straight to Dr. Youngs office, barely waiting for him to call me in me. Doctor Young, is Aurora okay? What's wrong with her? She was doing perfectly okay this morningI asked in panic.

Dr. Youngs expression was somber. Im sorry, Mr. Lucas, but Miss Aurora has been diagnosed with acute leukemia.

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. What? She was… she was fine yesterday,I managed, disbelief filling my voice.

Shell need a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible,he continued, handing me her diagnosis results. I barely noticed the file as I walked out, the weight of the news pressing down on me like a stone. My mind spun, searching for options, answers—anything that could help her.

With shaky hands, I pulled out my phone and dialed Elenas number. I knew it was a long shot, but I didnt have anyone else to turn to.

Elena!I said, as soon as she picked up. Aurora needs you now!

There was a pause, and then her voice came through cold and unforgiving. Are you insane, Lucas? Im not your wife anymore. Find someone else to help your… your vampire girlfriend, she snapped.

I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to rein in my frustration. I dont have time to argue. Please, come to the hospital—its urgent!

Her silence lingered, then she scoffed. I dont care, Lucas.

Its leukemia, Elena,I said, my voice quieter now, desperation seeping in. She needs your bone marrow.

A bitter laugh crackled through the phone. Go to hell with your vampire girlfriend.

I took a deep breath, fighting the impulse to throw my phone. Please, Elena. This will be the last time. Ill give you anything you want in return.

She was silent for a moment, and when she spoke again, her voice had a dark edge to it. You know what, Lucas? Ill come, but not because I need anything from you. This time, Im going to show you the truth.

She hung up, leaving me with a mixed hope. I didnt know what she meant by the truth, but right now, I couldnt focus on anything except getting her here. If there was a chance, no matter how small, to save Auroras life,

Id take it—even if it meant facing whatever Elena had planned.
