Chapter 41 - taming a powerful monster.

Here's the corrected version of

In the history of the Scavengers and Rankers at large, there had never been anyone who had tamed an S-rank monster. Not even a General whose abilities allowed them to tame monsters had ever succeeded in taming or even subjugating an S-rank monster.

This was because the higher a monster's rank, the greater its perverse intelligence. Due to this, if a Scavenger—who was considered an elite combatant of humankind—or a Ranker, a human who had gained abilities, attempted to subjugate or tame a monster, they would first have to overcome its twisted mind, which desired nothing but to kill living creatures for food, survival, and entertainment.

However, this was not the only factor that made subjugating a monster impossible. Other factors included the fact that not every monster of the same class was equal in power or intelligence. Additionally, the environment affected a monster's behavior and tendencies. For these reasons, the highest-ranked monster the Scavengers had ever managed to tame was an A-rank monster, while the highest-ranked monster ever subjugated by the Scavengers—or Rankers in general—was the A+ ranked monster Behemoth, a giant turtle with horns that had been subjugated by the Supreme General.

So, after General Barry gave his report to the Supreme General in his office, the Supreme General didn't show it, but he was slightly shaken by the news.

The Supreme General sat in his lavish office, staring at the blank cyber screen. His eyes were distant, or rather, he was lost in thought. He was reminiscing about the day he first encountered Behemoth.

It was a rainy day, and the sky was darker than usual as the Supreme General scouted the Amazon Rainforest for a new monster to add to his collection. However, his main mission was to observe the A+ ranked monster that had been reported heading toward the western coordinate city.

The Supreme General was only sent on such missions when it was nearly impossible to defeat the monster. As he moved through the forest, he noticed the rain becoming heavier, but of course, this couldn't harm an SS-rank such as himself.

After running at top speed for four minutes, he had covered eighty kilometers of the forest. At that moment, he heard a loud thud, making the ground shake. Suddenly, the sky became even darker, and the rain stopped.

No—it had not truly become darker, nor had the rain ceased. Behemoth, the A+ ranked monster, had appeared. Or rather, he had found Behemoth.

Realizing this, the Supreme General activated his ability. His power allowed him to mind-control monsters, and now that he had reached the SS-rank, his ability was even more potent. As he proceeded to destroy the monster's mind, Behemoth noticed his attempt and suddenly collapsed, intending to crush him under its massive body.

It fell so fast that the pressure of its descent acted as a trap, making it nearly impossible for the Supreme General to escape. It seemed as though he was going to die—the monster was ten kilometers wide, and with the added pressure, running away was not an option.

At that moment, he unleashed the energy he had been storing inside and activated his second ability: Death Strike.

This was his instant-kill ability, allowing him to summon lightning from the sky. By releasing his energy, he tricked the clouds into forming a powerful lightning strike—at least, that was a mundane way of explaining the phenomenon.

A single, massive bolt of lightning struck the monster's neck, sending it into convulsions. Before it could collapse completely, the Supreme General successfully subjugated it. In an instant, its state of sentience was erased.

The Supreme General sighed deeply. But at that moment, blood dripped from his nose, and he collapsed—right beneath Behemoth.

Recalling that memory, the Supreme General sighed and checked the calendar.

"14th of September... Can't wait for December," he murmured with a smile.
