Roger took a drag on his cigarette while standing against the balustrade on the patio. His thoughts reflected on his decision to marry Rita in the first place.
There was never any love, only a sense of responsibility for his past actions that he never truly seemed to remember.
"And an argument culminates in a stressful disagreement." Roger paused and directed his gaze toward Lilac.
Stepping into the patio, she approached her brother, who merely smiled at her.
"You have exceeded the curfew, Lilac. I hope Grandpa isn't awake or it might land you in trouble," he said, taking another drag.
Lilac would not have taken the effort to ascend the stairs to the terrace had she not seen her brother smoking. This event would not have occurred unless he was preoccupied with stress or a disagreement with his wife.
"Don't worry, he won't say anything," Lilac reassured him, following his lead.
