Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Winter dashed out the corridor, wiping away her tears and sobbing quietly till she reached the hidden corner of the twentieth level.

She wasn't supposed to be here, yet she is. She shouldn't have believed in something she wasn't familiar with, but she did because her heart couldn't rest.

"Why, Eric? Why did you do that?" Winter wept, clutching her heart, which ached at the sight of her boyfriend having sex with a woman.

The duo was so preoccupied with devouring one another that they forgot to notice her. But everything they did ended up crumbling Winter's trust.

Winter could never have thought that the guy who had sworn an oath of love for her would ultimately break her heart in the most painful way imaginable.

But weren't men always this way?

Remembering how her father cheated on her mother and then married his mistress shortly after her death, quickly replacing her with her mother, firmed her doubt.

For someone who never loved his wife and merely married her for financial reasons, he never regretted his decision.

Winter despised such people, but despite that experience, she ventured to trust her heart to Eric, only to discover that the images she received from an unknown source were accurate.

Winter continued to cry till she was exhausted. Pulling herself together, she wiped away her tears and pushed the button for the elevator.

She should have believed her friend back then, but Eric so expertly duped her into believing his falsehoods that she ended up cutting ties with her sole soulmate.

Winter quickly arrived at the parking area, taking the elevator and sprinting to her bike.

"Excuse me, are you here for a delivery?" a man abruptly said.

Winter's lips trembled as she attempted a smile. She dreaded rushing to a beautiful hotel wearing her uniform that read 'Fast Food Stop'.

She worked there, so there was no question why the man stopped her.

"Are you Mr. Wilson?" she said.

The man shakes his head. "No"

"Then I am sorry, but I do not have your parcel," she respectfully replied before mounting her bike and riding away.

Winter had been working hard and making atonement since she was booted out of her house.

Her father, David Greyson, was never very fond of her because she reminded him of his late wife. However, everything changed when her grandfather left and his now-wife took over the house.

From being treated unfairly to being accused of something she never did, everything seemed to deteriorate their already strained relationship, to the point where she was given an ultimatum. Not even fighting for herself worked, as they already termed an ungrateful brat who always went against their words.

Winter had had enough of the nonsense, and as soon as she realized no one in the house wanted her, she left. But deep down she waited for the old man to return and she would be back living in the same house.

But now it's been more than nine months and there was no news of when the old man would come.

Winter chose peace above the title of the daughter from the Greyson household she had never considered to be. But now she wanted that someone to hear her out.

"Get a grip, Winter," she mumbled as tears streamed down her cheeks and her hand squeezed the throttle firmly, propelling the bike to a bar.

"What's with her?" The waitress, who had just returned to serve the drink, spotted Winter in her delivery girl attire and exchanged a strange look with the man.

With his hands crossed, the bartender could only feel sorry for the girl while leaning on the counter.

"REPEAT!"

Winter slammed the empty glass on the counter and snorted, leaving both the man and the woman perplexed by her alcohol tolerance.

She was already half-conscious, but she ordered more drinks.

"Winter, that's enough," the bartender, Mr. Brooke, exclaimed, prompting Winter to stare up at him with half-open eyes and a smile.

"Just one," she chastised, forcing the middle-aged guy to groan with despair.

The waitress left, and Brooke shook his head in defeat. If he hadn't known who the girl was, he would have probably continued serving her. But she was not someone he didn't know.

Winter had worked at the same bar as Mr. Brooke, serving drinks to customers. She was like his daughter, and seeing her drowning in booze compelled him to save her from harming herself.

He turned his back on her and began pouring her drink, but the girl, who was almost limp, abruptly rose up and began going toward the dance floor.

Winter was so inebriated that she had no idea what she was doing, but the music inside let her forget about the anguish in her heart, and she began to sway to the rhythm, dancing her heartbreak away.

She intended to teach Eric a lesson and make him pay for breaking her heart by doing the same thing he had done to her.

'But what would be the difference between her and him?' she wondered, but her drunken thoughts discarded all of her misgivings, and she began hunting for a guy to satisfy her fury.

"Are you looking for anyone, Angel?" A deep velvety voice reached her chords, and her unfocused sight went to a man.

Those gloomy Emerald eyes looked at her with such passion that it melted her heart, and she nodded like a child.

In the blink of an eye, she had her arms around his neck and her lips smacking onto his.

Winter couldn't stop thinking about Eric kissing the woman, and it brought a tear to her eye.

She wanted to be happy for once, but her fantasy was dashed, and she was back to square one.

'However, why does kissing this stranger not evoke such negative emotions, and why is he kissing me very passionately?'

Winter's mind was in disarray as she relished every minute of the passionate moment they shared, and her body began to desire more.

She backed away and mumbled as she peered into those mesmerizing emerald green eyes.

"Take me somewhere."

As soon as she said those words, the man grabbed her wrist and took her out of the noisy area. Before she could grasp, he assisted her into his car and took her to a nearby hotel.

Winter was impatient the entire journey, and as soon as they entered the room, she jumped on him like an unchained beast, claiming his lips for a yearning kiss.

This wasn't the first time she kissed a man, but there was something irresistible about this man that made her greed for more.

The booze did bring out the worst in her, but that night Winter let lose of herself with the man whose memory got engraved in her consciousness, and never once did she regret surrendering to him.

The way he loved her made her feel so precious that all of her pain vanished, but she had no idea fate was playing a part and there was no turning back.
