Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Outside the Rosewood Mansion, a man dressed in black paced back and forth on the lawn, chanting to Holy God to preserve his soul from being ripped from his body by none other than the devil's incarnation.

He realized he was counting down to his death sentence the instant he betrayed him. He would soon be consumed and reduced to ashes by the man to whom he had dedicated his life.

"Holy Mother of God. Please save your child. This is a heartfelt desire. I don't want to die so soon." He cried, kneeling on the soft grass and joined his hands.

"Geez, Sean, why do you have to be so dramatic?" Stanley, the head bodyguard, stood leaning against the car with his hands crossed, scowling at his overdramatic companion. Why bother God when he was the one who failed to fall for deception?"

Sean halted and cast an uneasy look at Stanley. " Do not interrupt me. If you'd warned me sooner, I'd have devised a strategy. You betrayer, how could you push me into the sea of crocodiles?" He sobbed, wiping away his imaginary tears.

Stanley silently rolled his eyes. Scratching his forehead, he waved him to carry on when suddenly the main door opened and Kalix walked out.

While Sean was frozen like a statue, Standley straightened up and turned to open his car door.

Kalix glanced a cold look at Sean before getting into the car.

Thud!

The sound reverberated, pulling Sean out from his trance. He was expecting a conflict; however, the man simply ignored him. But that didn't stop him from sensing his already deteriorating mood.

"Are you planning to kneel forever?" Quick, get on your feet if you want to come all by yourself." He whispered and then walked to the driver's seat.Sean jolted out of his stupor and rushed into the front passenger seat.

The drive to the penthouse was silent since the man in the backseat had decided to sleep.Just when Sean felt he was safe, the icy voice cut through his joy.

"How did Grandpa learn about Seren?"Sean grieved internally, knowing that his serenity was about to run out.

Stanley, on the other hand, gave Sean a smirk before returning his attention to the road.

Sean wanted to strike that face, but he had to confront the devil first. His intellect raced quicker than any device, only to freeze, and soon he burst into sad tears.

"Boss, I promise I had no idea Elder Master was investigating us. I assumed he was only visiting the company to meet you as usual, but he threatened me."

Sean remembered how terrifying the elderly man could still be. It's no surprise that he continued to pose a threat to those in the underworld.

"And you told him everything?" Kalix inquired, his eyes pondering over Sean, making the small hair on his back stand up in alarm.

"I—I had no choice," he replied, bowing his head and continuing to sob.

If only they didn't know those tears were fake, mere an escape from getting wrath.Kalix glanced at the man for a few seconds before turning away.

If it had been someone else, he would have beheaded him, but knowing how much Sean admired the old man, he couldn't even reprimand him for stating the truth.

Kalix leaned his head back and asked, "Did you find out who called the attack on Byron?"

Sean felt at peace when he noticed Kalix's soothing voice. He quickly wiped away his tears and began reporting.

"The driver is still on the run. Even the CCTV footage on the highway was faulty. Our experts are still working to retrieve it." Sean continued to report everything.

Since Byron's accident became public, Kalix has been diligently seeking information about it.He promised the elderly man for help and in exchange, he would persuade Winter to marry him, but things suddenly appeared convoluted and not as simple as he had imagined, as Winter refused to do so.

"Keep looking; I'm sure there will be a clue left behind," he said before returning to his original stature.

Kalix had his plan ready, but his grandfather's intervention ruined everything.

[The Grayson Mansion]

"It'll take us years to get rid of that old man," Dorothy complained as she took a leisurely sip from her drink.

David, on the other hand, said nothing while Agnes consoled her mother.

"But what happens now? Do we put our lives back in his hands now that he's alive? She spoke, her expression revealing her genuine concern. She then turned to her father and whined.

"Dad, you know what a troublemaker he is. Eric is constantly working and rarely has time for me."

Dorothy frowned at her daughter's pathetic comment. Their entire existence was at stake, and she was complaining about not being able to spend time with her so-called fiancée.

"That man deserves it because he chooses to follow instructions." If not, how will you exist if we are left without money?" Dorothy yelled, making Agnes shudder.

The Byron family never fully acknowledged David and Dorothy's marriage, but his vow to his late wife protected them from rejection.

Agnes got chills when she heard her mother's comment. She would be unable to continue living a wretched life.

"No, that cannot happen. Dad, you've got to do something," she cried as her mind filled with the prospect of losing all her good fortune.

David took a deep breath and stepped up to depart, but on the way, he received a call from his assistant.

"Boss, there is a problem," he stated, rendering David's demeanor absolutely somber.

[Hotel room]

Winter had scarcely slept since Seren's words kept her awake all night.

She had no idea her indifferent daughter would want to have a family. Someone who had never spoken about her father suddenly requested one.

There was never anyone else in Winter's world save her daughter and herself. However, now that she thinks about it, there were a few times when she saw the eager expression in Seren's eyes whenever she saw a happy family. A family consisted of a father, mother, and child.

'Did I ignore my child's wish or was I so foolish thinking that just the two of us were enough and there was no room for any other person in their lives?'

When Winter discovered she was pregnant, she didn't blame anyone. It was entirely her choice to sleep with a strange guy. But, at one time, she was concerned about how she would manage everything while she wasn't making much.

However, when Byron learned about it, he provided them since he never wanted her child to suffer as a result of her decision. That was the moment Winter determined she would never give up and began seeking a permanent position.

She did, with the help of a friend, join a firm and work in the finance department. The work paid her enough to support her tiny family, and despite Byron's constant efforts to provide them with a home, she refused to accept it anymore.

She paid her rent for three years before deciding to move with Gina because Seren's playgroup was close to their home.

Everything was wonderful, and they were happy, but after coming here, it changed.

But how could she not? Her grandfather was on the verge of death, and the culprit remained unidentified.

Winter closed her eyes frustratingly. She desired to purify her thoughts and think rationally, devoid of any influence.

As she lay there, a phone rang, and she hurriedly reached out to answer it.

"Hello, Mr. Grayson, what do I owe to be remembered by you." Winter greeted him in the coldest way possible, only to be amazed by his remarks.
