Chapter 4 - Chapter four A Glimpse of Hope

Mitchell stayed back home spending her days in solitude, with her mind reeling with thoughts of her father's predicament. She had promised him that she would find a way to get him out of his messy situation, but doing that at the expense of her and Harry's unborn child didn't seem to be an option.

"I can't deprive Harry of his child. I really can't." She repeatedly said the words to herself.

As she sat home pondering on what to do, Mitchell felt a sense of desperation wash all over her. Every day that went by, she felt like she was drowning in a world of her own.

Just as she was starting to lose hope at the overwhelming storm, Mitchell's phone rang. It was her best friend, Catherine.

"Hey, girl, what's up?" Catherine asked, her voice was so bubbly and cheerful.

Mitchell sighed, feeling like a lump just formed in her throat. "Not much, Catherine. Just been here dealing with some family stuff."

Catherine's tone immediately turned serious. "Is that why I haven't seen you since we were at the hospital? What's going on? Is everything okay?"

Mitchell hesitated, not certain about how much information she was to reveal to Catherine even though she always told her everything before now. Regardless Catherine was her best friend, her confidante. She knew she could really trust her.

"It's my dad, Catherine," Mitchell said, with her voice cracking uncontrollably. "He's in trouble. He's being sued by the bank, and he's facing jail time for embezzlement."

Rachel gasped like she had been suffocating earlier "Oh my! Mitchell. I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Mitchell felt a wave of gratitude and peace wash all over her. Catherine has always been there for her, no matter what the situation could be and she wasn't doing differently now.

"I don't know, Catherine. I honestly don't." Mitchell said, feeling so helpless. "I've been racking my brain for days now, trying to think of a way to get him out of this mess, but I'm coming up blank."

Mitchell lied knowing she had been thinking of Tyler being a solution to her problem and how to go about Harry's child.

Catherine was silent for a moment, and Mitchell could almost hear her thinking.

"Wait a minute," Catherine said, with her voice sounding really excited.

"I think I might have an idea. My uncle is a lawyer, and he's really good at getting people out of sticky situations. Maybe he can help your dad."

Mitchell's heart skipped a beat. This was the first glimmer of hope she had felt since the case had been on.

"Really, Catherine? You think your uncle could help?"

Catherine nodded in affirmation, even though Mitchell couldn't see her. "I'm positive he can. Let me call him and set up a meeting. We'll get your dad out of this mess, Mitchell. I promise."

Mitchell felt a wave of relief. Finally for the first time in days, she felt like there might be a way out of this messy situation.

As she hung up the phone with Catherine, Mitchell couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards her friend and she felt indebted to her. Catherine had always been there for her, and now she was offering to help her family in their time of need like this when there was no one else to run to except Tyler and of course with his offer.

Mitchell took a long deep breath. She was excited to know that she was going to get her father out of this mess with Catherine's help, she knew she could do it.

The next day, Mitchell and her father immediately met with Catherine's uncle. He was a generous, kind and wise-looking man by the name, Mr. Jenkins. He listened to their story, and his expression grew more and more serious as they spoke.

When they finished, Mr. Jenkins nodded thoughtfully. "I think I may be of help to you, Matthew," he said. "But it's going to take some work. And are you willing to do what it takes to get out of this mess?"

Mitchell's father nodded eagerly. "I'll do anything, Mr. Jenkins. Just please, help me."

He was ready now than ever to be finally free from the mess he got himself into and the sense of hope and freedom Mr Jenkins made him feel helped calm his nerves.

Mr. Jenkins smiled. "I'll do my best, Matthew. But I have to warn you, it's not going to be easy. We're going to have to fight to get you out of this mess, and it's going to take time. But I would have to make some calls so by tomorrow I would let you know how we can proceed."

Mitchell felt a surge of determination. She was ready to fight, and do whatever it takes to get her father out of this mess. And with Mr. Jenkins on their side, she knew they could do it. She had heard so many cases that Mr. Jenkins had won in the past.

But as they left Mr. Jenkins' office, Mitchell couldn't shake the feeling that they were running out of time. The court date was getting closer, and if they didn't come up with a solution soon, her father would be going to jail.

She immediately called Catherine to tell her the progress of things and how she positively awaits the feedback of her uncle by morning.

"It would be positive Mitchy, you need to get some rest. You know you are having a baby."

"I really don't want my dad to go to jail."

"He won't."

"Have you told Harry or your dad about the baby?" Catherine asked inquisitively.

"Shh…" Mitchell immediately interrupted her.

"So you haven't?"

Mitchell quietly excused herself beside her dad to answer Catherine's questions.

"No I haven't, and you won't either."

"But…."

"No but Catherine, I don't give you the permission to."

"And that's final." She warned.

"Take care and talk to you soon!"

Mitchell sounded stern to Catherine as she hung up the call.
