Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9: Face-Offs

Ethan and Sarah kept on fucking and kissing, lost in each other, totally oblivious of time and their environment. When they finally had their fill of each other and we're exhausted, they stopped fucking and began to put there clothes back on.

Suddenly Sarah's eyes cut the time on the dashboard. It was way past 7pm. "What the heck!" She screamed. Had she actually been fucking for the past two hours and forgot that she had a child at home?. "Are you alright?" Ethan asked with a note of concern in his voice. "Yes," replied Sarah. "I just didn't know it had gotten so late"

"I guess time flies when you're in good company" Ethan said with a smile on his face. He looked so peaceful and almost unreal. Sarah was almost tempted to lean back into him for a kiss but she had a daughter waiting on her at home. "That's true" Sarah said "But unfortunately I have a kid waiting for me at home." With that Sarah opened the door and stepped out into the parking lot.

Making her way briskly to the employees' car park, she found her car all alone in the lot. Getting in quickly, Sarah tried to start the car but the engine didn't respond. She tried again and again but the car didn't respond. Knowing she didn't have the luxury of time, Sarah fumbled in her bag for her phone. She was going to call for a cab, and then call her home phone to check up on Amy and reassure her that she was on her way home. But she couldn't find her cellphone.

She emptied her bag on the passenger seat but still couldn't find her phone. Could she have dropped it in Ethan's car? Hurrying back to Lot 101 to see if by any chance Ethan was still there proved futile as the Lamborghini was gone and the parking lot deserted.

Dejected Sarah returned to her car. She briefly considered going back into the office complex to make her calls but quickly discarded the idea as she didn't have any tenable reason to give to the janitor and the cleaning crew. Gathering her personal effects back into her handbag, Sarah got out of the car, locked it and began her walk to the nearest payphone.

She found one at the fuel station 500 meters from the office. She slipped in a few quarters and then ordered a taxi. She then called her home line to check in with Amy. The phone rang and then went to voicemail when no one answered. She was beginning to worry. How did a memorable evening become so stressful all of a sudden?

After what seemed like eternity her cab arrived. Climbing in and giving the driver her address, Sarah leaned back in the vehicle to prepare her story. She knew Amy would be hungry by now and angry with her. She prayed Amy or her husband had not called her phone yet. What if either of them did and Ethan answered the call? That is assuming that she indeed lost the phone in his car.

ETHAN'S POV

After Sarah got out of his car, Ethan leaned back on the driver's seat and watched Sarah leave. Her waist wiggled recklessly as she hurried off. "Damn!" Ethan thought "this woman's got me hooked". He felt like bending her over and taking her once again right there in the parking lot.

Once she was out of view, Ethan put the gear in drive and exited the lot. Driving swiftly, he maneuvered the beast through traffic. He was heading to the bachelor pad he called home. He lived in a condo in one of the luxury apartment buildings his father had built before he died. Ethan was now the sole owner of twelve of such high-rise luxury buildings in New York alone.

Stopped by a traffic light a couple of blocks away from his place, Ethan noticed the phone lying on the floor in front of the passenger seat. He bent down and picked it up just as the light turned green and traffic began to move again. He took his foot off the brake and stepped on the throttle.

Holding the phone in one hand and the steering wheel with another, Ethan continued to drive way above the speed limits. He was still trying to figure out who's phone it was, when a call came in. Flipping it open, Ethan took the call without checking the caller's ID.

"Hello, this is Ethan. Who is this?". There was no response, but the caller remained on the line for a few more seconds, before ending the call. As Ethan closed the phone and dropped it on the passenger seat, he saw the reflection of a police car behind him.

Damn.

Pulling over to the shoulder, Ethan got out before the cop could get out of his vehicle. "Get back in your vehicle Sir and put your hands out the window" the officer said to him over the PA system in the cop car.

Feeling irritated by the 'unnecessary' formality, Ethan refused to cooperate. "Do you know who I am?" He asked the officer. "I've done nothing wrong and, and I don't have to stand this shit" Ethan said.

"Calm down sir…" "Or what?" Ethan asked the officer who was now standing face to face with him. Unfortunately for him, the patrol officer was not in the best of moods. Tackling Ethan, the officer cuffed him, threw him in the back of his patrol car and drove him to the station. He was going to make sure Ethan at least spent the weekend in jail.

Sarah wasn't ready for a fight tonight, not after all the energy she expended fucking with Ethan, walking to and fro the parking lot and then finally to the gas station. She prayed Edward wasn't yet home when she got there.

As she paid her fare and alighted from the cab she saw her daughter standing behind her husband, Edward, who was clutching a baseball bat with a scowl on his face.

Edward got up from the stairs as Sarah approached the entrance. Holding the baseball bat menacingly, he stood at the entrance, preventing Sarah from going inside the house. "And where do you think you are going to?" Edward asked.

"Look I've had a very stressful day and I don't have the strength for drama tonight" Sarah replied, pushing past Edward as she made her way into the house. Amy ran into her arms and started crying. Sarah picked her up and carried her into the house.

Once inside, Sarah set out to make dinner for Amy who was already famished. Edward joined them in the kitchen while Sarah was doing the dishes."You still haven't answered my question," Edward said, leaning on the door post. "And what is your question, Edward?" Sarah asked as she continued to fix dinner.

"You were supposed to have been home well over two hours ago. I called your cell phone several times, but you didn't pick up. Eventually a man who introduced himself as Ethan, answered your phone. So tell me, who the hell is Ethan, where have you been, and what was he doing with your phone?" Ethan yelled out.

Turning to face Edward, Sarah calmly delivered her well rehearsed cover up story "Look honey, I don't know what you're getting all worked up about. I had to go with my boss and other colleagues for a meeting with a potential client. The meeting dragged on longer than we planned and there was little I could do about it. I must have misplaced my cell phone in my boss's car when he dropped me off at the office to pick my car." Sarah paused to catch her breath and also find out if Edward was buying the story. He wasn't.

With the scowl on his face becoming even more frightening, Edward asked "so where is your car?" "I was just about to tell you." Sarah said. "It wouldn't start, so I left it at the company's car park and took a taxi home."

"Slut." Edward said coldly. "What did you call me?" Sarah asked as anger began to well up on her inside. Amy, who was seated on a stool by the kitchen counter and eating a sandwich, began to sob again. "Slut, that is what you are" Edward reiterated.

"Takes one to know one I guess." Sarah retorted, beginning to lose control of her temper. "You think I don't know that you've been cheating on me with all those cheap sluts you frolic with in bars."

"Oh so you do admit you are a slut!" Edward hit back. "Fuck you Edward, I don't owe you any explanation. Call me whatever you like and believe whatever you want to believe, I don't bloody care". "You bloody slut, I'm gonna kill you." Edward said as he flew off the handle. He started to chase Sarah who took off running.

Rounding the table in the middle of the kitchen, Sarah ran out of the kitchen, flew up the flight of stairs with Edward in hot pursuit. Running into their bedroom, Sarah slammed the door shut before Edward could get a foot in the way.

Sarah bolted the door before dashing to the telephone by the bedside. She dialed 911 and waited for the operator to respond. Instead the line went dead. Instantly she knew what had happened: her husband had unplugged the telephone lines in the house.
