That night, Selena felt slightly calmer. After a few tense days at the office, Alexander called her. He invited Selena out, trying to cheer her up after the unpleasant meeting at work. "I'll pick you up," Alexander said over the phone, his voice calm yet full of concern. "Let's have dinner. I want you to know that everything will be fine."
Selena felt a little better hearing those words. She got ready, put on casual clothes, and waited for Alexander. Though uneasiness lingered in her heart, Alexander's presence always brought her peace. She couldn't wait to see him.
Selena's phone rang.
"Hello, who's there?" Selena asked.
"Miss Selena, we want to inform you that you are listed as the second emergency contact. Alexander is currently being treated after an accident. Please come to the hospital immediately," said the voice on the other end with a serious tone.
Selena stared blankly at the phone, as if time had stopped. Everything around her felt blurry, and only one thing occupied her mind Alexander. She had to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
Hurriedly, Selena stepped out, leaving her apartment with a heart full of anxiety. Every second felt like an eternity, her mind filled with images of a wounded Alexander. Without hesitation, she rushed to the hospital, hoping to find Alexander alive and well.
When she arrived at the hospital, the atmosphere was tense. Selena immediately asked for information about Alexander's condition, but before she could reach him, she noticed Alexander's family already gathered in the waiting room.
Their faces were grim, and they turned toward Selena as she entered. They looked surprised to see her. "Who are you?" Alexander's mother asked sharply.
Selena froze, startled by the question. She wanted to explain, but no words came out of her mouth. "I… I'm his girlfriend," she finally managed to say, her voice barely audible.
Her answer only made things worse. Alexander's father glared at her, his eyes filled with disdain.
"His girlfriend?Oh, so you're the gold digger they've been talking about?" he said coldly. "Do you know what you've done to our son?" he were frustrated and tried to take it all out on Selena.
Selena felt as if her heart had been torn apart by those words. She tried to explain, but the tension in the room only grew. Alexander's mother stood up, facing her with eyes full of anger.
"Don't come here again!" she shouted harshly. "You don't deserve to be here. Don't expect to see our son, even if it's just his corpse."
Selena was stunned. Those words hit her like a lightning bolt. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. "But… Alexander… is he… is he dead?" Selena asked, her voice trembling, her eyes brimming with tears.
They remained silent, and Alexander's mother continued in an even harsher tone. "This is all your fault! If only you hadn't entered his life, our son wouldn't be in this situation. Leave now!"
Those words pierced her heart deeply, and Selena felt as if the world around her had collapsed. She wanted to scream, but her lips refused to move. Only one feeling remained an overwhelming sadness.
Selena left the hospital with heavy steps, her heart filled with sorrow and overwhelming guilt. As she walked down the road, her mind kept replaying the words she had just heard from Alexander's family. What should she do now? Was Alexander really gone?
The pain was unbearable. All this time, Selena had tried to ignore her visions about the future, about the fate that might befall their relationship. But now, the reality she faced seemed to confirm everything she had seen.
She felt broken, lost. On one hand, she wanted to fight for their love, but on the other, the guilt and fear of losing Alexander were too great.
After days of contemplation, Selena decided to resign from her job. Nothing could console her, and even her colleagues at work began to ridicule and distance themselves from her. They didn't understand Selena's feelings; to them, she was just a "gold digger," a label she had never expected. It felt easier to leave and forget everything.
In the quiet of the night, Selena made the final decision to move to another city. She wanted to leave behind all the painful memories with Alexander and try to start a new life without being haunted by the past.
However, even though she changed places, one thing remained the deep love she had for Alexander, a love she couldn't forget.
