Kaki sits on the cold floor of the orphanage, clutching his sister tightly as if letting go would mean losing her forever. Every time someone walks into the room, his grip tightens, his instincts screaming to protect her.
When a woman arrives, her eyes light up as she sees Kahi. But when her gaze lands on Kaki, her face hardens.
"I can't take him too. They're too close in age. I don't have the resources for two," she says, her voice void of warmth.
Kaki watches, his small heart pounding, as the woman gently takes Kahi from his arms. He reaches out, his voice breaking:
"No… no! That's my sister!"
But his pleas are ignored. The moment she leaves with Kahi, Kaki breaks into loud, uncontrollable sobs. The orphanage workers try to console him, but nothing can ease the pain of his first real loss.
