Chapter 53 - Kain

Sebastian

The scent this woman was secreting was like Lilith's, just not as serene or succulent. It smelled... like a rotten version of her scent. She turned with the man standing next to her, who flashed a toothy grin. His eyes emitted a deep gold as hers shined a bright baby blue. Troy shoved himself around them.

"Sir! I'm sorry. They dispelled the barrier even after I told them you were busy." He bowed apologetically as my eyes locked with the woman's.

"Hello." She whispered as she placed her arm across her chest, bowing. "My name is Luna from the Lahnust clan. "I'm your new charge." She stood up as she placed her arm down by her side, turning to the man standing next to her.

"And this is Kain. He's the Lord of Astria." He exaggerated his bow as he kept that terrible grin on his face.

"Sup." He said as he rose, flicking his head at me in a nod.

"What are YOU doing here?" I growled low at them. Kain skimmed the top of his teeth with his tongue, loving the disdain in my voice as Luna sighed.

"I believe you received a notice from my mother, correct?" She asked, raising her brow innocently at me. I crossed my arms as I shook my head no. Fuck! I thought I had some more time before the replacement showed up. I glared at her; she looked like she was about to cry.

She was irritating me. Her aura gave off that of a spoiled brat who always got what she wanted. No discipline in her life, no struggle. How was she a warrior of Lahnust? And why is the Prince of Astria standing in my foyer?

"I'm not interested in replacing my current guardian. I don't know why you wasted your time to come here." I straightened myself out as I took a step towards the kitchen.

"I'd like for you two to leave. I have no use for you." I shoved my way through them, making sure I smacked my shoulder hard on Kain. He was trying to prove his dominance with his attitude. Not in my fucking house.

I heard his tongue click on the roof of his mouth as Luna sobbed. What... in the actual hell? Azazel rolled his eyes.

"You see, Mr. Aster; I can't go back home without Lilith. My mother, the clan leader, has demanded her return... because..." She sobbed as I didn't even bother to turn to give her the attention she wanted. "Because she murdered this poor Prince's brothers."

That. That caused me to turn towards them. A sly grin crept across Kain's face as Luna wiped her fake tears.

"Yea man, gutted two of them like they were game on a hunting trip and left the other one blind. Ripped his eyeballs right out of his face." His voice was irritating but somehow swooned Luna. She batted her lashes at him as she turned her attention back to me.

"I don't see how that's a problem; they probably deserved it." I flatly responded. He shrugged as he stuck his pinky nail in his teeth, picking them. Luna cleared her throat.

"Lilith is to head back to Lahnust with Lord Kain." She reached into her cloak, pulling out a rolled-up parchment paper. She took a step towards me, handing me the paper. Her fingers glided against my hand, causing me to recoil from her. The look on her face made me want to vomit. She was fucking trying to seduce me.

I opened the paper. I immediately snapped it shut, crumpling it and throwing it. Shock washed over her face as Kain chuckled.

"No. Leave..." I stood there with fists clenched as I ground my teeth. Azazel was growling in a deep, animalistic tone as I stared them down.

"LEAVE," I said more angrily. "Before I make you," I hissed at them as Kain roared out in laughter.

"Sorry man, I ain't going anywhere..." He paused as he looked at me, licking his canines. "I'm not leaving without my wife." The words stabbed through me as I took a step forward towards him. Luna stepped between us, as she tried to de-escalate the situation.

"Please... Prince Aster, let's not do anything rash." She shrugged her shoulders as she raised her hands pleadingly. I glared down at her, snarling.

"I won't have to do anything rash... if you'd just leave my damn house," I said through gritted teeth. I already have a war brewing with the dukes, but I wanted nothing more than to let Azazel take over. I don't need to add any more... right now.

"Mmm… Something smells…" Kain's eyes flashed with lust as I realized Lilith was slowly walking up behind them. He turned, his tongue practically hanging out like a dog.

"…Good." He slid the word out as he licked his lips, eyeing Lilith up and down. She halted as confusion crossed her face.

"Oh! Lilith!" Luna hollered, running to her and flinging herself on her. Lilith did not hug her back.

"Sister… what…" Lilith looked at me pleadingly. I went to take a step forward, but Kain's body blocked me, rolling his shoulders.

"Mother sent me. She found out you took the contract without her approval." She pulled away from her as she shook her head, looking her up and down.

"Why did you do that? You know it was my turn." She pinched Lilith's cheek. What she did next had me wanting to lunge across the room.

"Oh… you let yourself go." she sucked air through her teeth as she grabbed Lilith's waist. Lilith stepped back from her, wrapping her arms around herself as she stared at the floor.

"That's ok! You'll lose it by wedding." She giggled as she spun, grabbing Kain and dragging him to Lilith. She looked over Kain's shoulder at me.

"No. I asked you to leave, and I asked nicely. Now I'm not." I stepped forward as Kain turned around, squaring up with me.

"And I said, I'm not leaving without my wife." He grabbed me by the collar, lifting me with ease. I dug my hands into his forearms, breaking his grip and landing on my feet. Lilith must have seen me lose my cool, because she inserted herself between us.

"Please, can someone just explain to me what's going on?" She said firmly as she looked at me and Kain.

He wrapped his nasty hands around her, pulling her to him.

"You're to be my bride, ya know. Payment for killing two of my brothers and handicapping our best hunter." He grinned down at her. I grabbed her, pulling her away from him. His expression dropped into anger.

"You know you can't break the agreement; it doesn't involve you. She signed the paper you saw," Luna interjected our glaring contest.

"What are you talking about, sister?" Lilith questioned as her sister walked up to the crumpled piece of paper on the floor. She picked it up, unraveled it, and handed it to Lilith. The color drained from her face.

"She doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want," I rumbled at them, furrowing my brows.

"Oh, she has to…" Kain waltzed up to her, brushing the hair out of her face as she flinched. "You know, if she doesn't want her clan to go to war with us." He chewed his lower lip as he looked her up and down.

I froze as my eyes tried to meet with hers. She kept avoiding me as a small tear dropped from her cheek.
