Lilith
I felt so. Fucking. Bad. Saying he was a demon, and he reeked of destruction. I was honestly scared of feeling anything towards him. We've only been around each other for a day and a half and his advances are the most attention I've had my whole life. It didn't help that I had Lilly screaming in my ear every chance she got to get me to go for it.
He also struck a nerve by saying I'd never been with a man before. I gripped my pant legs tightly as I felt an apology rise in my throat, but my pride wouldn't let me speak the words.
The carriage slowed to a halt, as Sebastian silently made his way out. I took a shaky breath as I reached for my handle. I halted, pondering as to why I never let anyone show me any chivalry. Probably because I was told my whole life I was a weapon, that my sole purpose is to carry out missions and, when I hit my heat, reproduce and make more weapons.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I snapped my head up, Sebastian was standing in front of me, his hand outstretched as his handsome future glowed in the sun. This time I outstretched my hand, placing it in his as he helped me down. This made Lilly jump up and down as she gleefully cheered. Maybe I need to start listening to her more.
I didn't notice that I had a tear rolling down my cheek, which caused me to gasp as Sebastian reached out, placing his palm on my cheek and using his thumb to swipe it away.
"Secrets will eat you alive little lamb," he sneered at me as slightly bent down. "And I can't have anything else devour you before I do." He flicked his canine tooth with his tongue as I turned to head to the front of the carriage.
Sebastian quickly walked up next to me as we entered the busy streets of the market district. Several women ran up to him, surrounding him and squealing like little children. A couple of them tried to give him their handkerchiefs, while one was bold enough to hike up her skirt and pull down her garter belt. She bunched it up, reaching out to hand it to him.
Lilly raged inside me as I kept my cool. Sebastian's face furrowed into disgust as he shoved it away.
"Excuse me, you don't have to be so rude and interrupt my time-out. I'm a busy man; I don't need you clawing at me." He hissed as he pushed through them. Disappointment rushed over their faces as the group simultaneously landed their gaze on me.
"You're hanging up your pump and dump days?" A shrill voice cut through the crowd. The crowd parted, revealing a woman wearing a green frilly dress that looked expensive, her blonde hair pulled back into a neat bun as a select few strands of blonde fell to frame her face. Her icy blue eyes fell on mine as she scoffed at me.
"You're hanging it up for what? Her?" She nodded towards me.
"No, no there's a misunderstanding, I'm..." I was abruptly cut off as she strode her way up to me. She jammed her finger into my collar bone as she hissed at me.
"Sebastian would never fall for a tatted-up tramp like you!" She took a step back as the girls behind her were whispering. One of them slowly piped up, her voice squeaky and uncertain.
"Um... Marie... That's a sell sword from Lahnust." She quickly grabbed onto the shoulder of another woman and started to tremble. I folded my arms as I looked at her with disdain.
"And? That's even worse! Don't you know they torture their children, cut out the tongues of men and will kill anything they're paid to?" She raised her voice, bringing more attention towards us. More than I liked. I scanned the crowd, my eyes trying to see where Sebastian went.
"Even the warriors of Astria won't mess with them, and they're mutts!" She placed her hands on her hips as she leaned towards me, spitting at my feet.
Some of the rumors were true. Hell who am I kidding? All of them were true, but we can never say that. Our practices were terrible, but if you went against them, you'd end up dead or exiled, which eventually would lead to you to death. The best advice I received from my mother was to shut up and let them judge. Because all you'll ever be is a weapon and a breeding horse, Lilith.
"Not true, you're very desirable. I've been around for a while, and I'll help you break out of that clan if it's the last thing I do!" Lilly roared in my head, causing my expression to falter. I blinked and quickly went back to looking at Sebastian, who gradually took steps towards me, trying to shift through the growing crowd. Slurs of cursing came from him as he was fighting the urge to throw everyone out of the way. The sight caused me to laugh.
"See! She won't deny it! She's even laughing! I bet she's used a spell or something on Sebastian, so she could court him and cut out his tongue. She bent down, picking up a rock. Rage crossed over Sebastian's face as the rock left her hand, flying towards me.
I quickly turned my head, dodging it while maintaining eye contact with Marie. Her face drained of color as her courage followed behind it. Sighing, I turned my attention to Sebastian. I reached through the crowd, grabbing his wrist and yanking him through them all. He stumbled out, as he stood up and adjusted his shirt.
"We should teach her some manners..." Lilly hissed.
"What good would that do? Her daddy might write a formal complaint to the clan if his precious little toy was broken," I said in a snarky tone to Lilly. Sebastian quickly looked down at me, raising an eyebrow. A look of confusion ran over my face.
"Excuse me, what did you just say!?" Marie stomped her foot, her color back and a newfound courage rolling off her. I shrugged as I realized I spoke my thoughts out loud. Sebastian slapped his knee as he threw himself forward roaring with laughter.
"Come on, let's go. We must see the King and Queen off at 6:00pm," I turned, grabbing his sleeve and dragging him with me. He shot me a sneer as Marie hollered at us. Both of us ignored her tantrum.
Sebastian sped his pace up, cutting me off. I halted, placing my hands on my hips.
"Yes?" I questioned with a hint of irritancy. He had that dumb grin plastered on his face as he, yet again, grabbed my wrist. He pulled me towards a bakery shop, causing my heart to sink.
"We don't need more food, we had a big breakfast," I protested at him as the smell of sweets hit my nose. Lilly moaned loudly as I found myself drooling. I quickly wiped my mouth before he could notice. I crossed my arms across my chest as I nervously looked at the floor.
"Hey, go grab us a table outside, let me pick something for you," Sebastian's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. Sighing, I nodded and turned to head out.
The street was still bustling with the commotion of what happened just moments ago, people staring at me as I found an empty table for us to sit at. I took a seat that faced towards the entrance so I could keep an eye on who entered. My ears twitched as the whispers reached them.
"Drown them out, it's nothing you haven't heard before." Lilly whispered to me. I caught a glimpse of Maria staring daggers at me as her little posse fanned themselves with giant fans. I scoffed, leaning back in my seat as I smiled cutely at her and waved. Her face beamed the red of my hair as she took a step towards me. Her friends grabbed her arm, shaking their heads no, as Sebastian turned the corner holding two pastries.
He comically plopped down, the seat creaking to his weight and looking ridiculous under his height. He pushed the bun towards me as he took a bite of his. I chewed the inside of my lip, as I poked it with my finger. He glared at me as he swallowed his bite. I opened my mouth to say no thank you, only to be surprised by him taking the treat and shoving it into my mouth. I giggled as I wiped the white frosting off my nose, for once I felt at ease on a mission.
