"Look mom, it's sunny outside", said a boy in a dark room, with the only light being from a broken window. After a while the boy knelt down and looked at a framed picture of a woman smiling in a flower field, in a yellow dress. A tear rolled down the boy's cheek. He sat there for a while before saying: " I'm sorry mom, but I have to go now." The boy took a last look around the room. It was old and worn out with holes in the walls and spider web in the ceiling. There was a sorry excuse for a bed in the corner of the room and a table. He looked at the picture one last time before walking out the door.
Outside, the house looked even worse. The boy looked around, he was in a forest. He looked at the house again before walking in the opposite direction. He wasn't thinking, he couldn't, he was too overwhelmed with his mom dying and him having no one else.
After a while he reached a village. The town looked empty like it hadn't had residents for decades. The houses were covered in moss and some even had trees in the walls. As the boy was about to continue walking he heard something behind him.
A drop of sweat was slowly descending it's way down the boys face as he was turning around. Behind him he saw a youth like himself, maybe a little older, looking at him with a scared expression. "Why are you here, it's not safe", said the youth. "I could ask you the same question". Suddenly they heard a loud siren and after a moment there was an announcement. "Anyone still in the area must evacuate to safety immediately." "I think they mean us", said the boy. "Do you think we can survive this?" "I don't know." The youth was about to say something when the boy continued. "But we may have a chance if we move now and quickly at that." He took the youths hand and was starting to run but at the same time whispered: "be fast but quiet, don't step on any branches or we're dead and if I let go it means there's danger ahead."
They started running but slowed down after a while since the youth didn't have the stamina for running long distances. "Come on, you can still run, we're almost there", whispered the boy but as he looked back he saw that the youth could not continue as he was so out of breath and looked like someone who was about to pass out. They stopped and the youth sat down on a rock. As he was catching his breath he asked: " What's your name? Mine is Nes." "I don't have a name." "What do you mean you don't have a name?" "I was never given one as nobody ever bothered. Or maybe I was an forgot. I was born here, you know, I know nothing about the real world." Nes's eye's widened and he took a good look at the boy. The boy had worn out clothes with holes in them, long brown hair, no shoes and scars all over his body, on the legs, arms and even the neck. New couldn't see the boy's face clearly since his hair was blocking most of it. "If you were born here and have never been to the real world, how are you alive and how do you know this isn't the real world?" "My mom once told me that this isn't the real world and that someday I should find a way back. She also said that no matter what happens to her I must live and some day make her proud. I did find the exit to this place but was too scared to leave. And as to how I was able t-" He was interrupted when they heard loud screaming behind them.
It was a girl running at them, screaming: "Run, they're here and stronger than everyone thought. Everyone else is already out. We have to go now Nes, since the government is about to close this place for good." The girl stopped between the boy and Nes, looked at the boy for a while, then started running and screaming once again. "Do you guys want to die, we have to go now. This place was supposed to be an easier one for beginners, what the actual f-" Nes and the boy couldn't hear the end as she had already run off.
Nes still had many questions but wouldn't and couldn't ask them since as the girl had said behind them there was an unknown creature. "Run, we can't fight this thing it's too powerful", said the boy. " You read my mind I was about to say the same th- Ahh." Ne jumped back word screaming. "Why is it attacking me first." The boy was about to say something but was too scared to open his mouth as he saw that behind the creature was it's pack and he wasn't gonna stick around to count them all. Nes looked at the boy who had a horrified look on his face. Nes noticed that the boy was saying something under his breath. "We're so screwed."
