Chereads / Harbinger Of Light / Chapter 3 - Unexpected Reunion

Chapter 3 - Unexpected Reunion

It's been awhile since my room was cleaned, it looked more empty now rather than a pile of junk, funny enough I kinda liked it when it was messy, maybe it's because I've been used to it for too long, but I was still sitting in my bed, wondering her words to me, She's coming back!? After so long, this was unexpected. I felt confused, but also determined for answers, so I was preparing myself until suddenly, the door rang.

"Huh!? That quick, is it even her!?"

I looked out the window and I saw it with my own eyes, wearing a jacket and short pants, her hair white like the snow, shimmering blue eyes, and it seems that she's gotten a new hairstyle too, but even that isn't enough to confuse me.

I made my way downstairs, as my maid opened the door for her as she walked in, I stood there, looking directly at her. She rushed towards me and hugged me tight.

"Hey there little bro! It's been a while hasn't it!?"

I tried getting out of her grip, but she was too strong I guess. I had a tired look and was not in the mood for this.

"Yeah, it has."

I said as she released me, I was staring at her, trying to choose my next words carefully. I was going to ask her where she went off too for such a long time, but I was interrupted by her, she was so happy and expressive, I feel like I'm out of place here.

"So how have you been bro, You holding up ok?"

I was frustrated, and replied with a hardened tone.

"I don't know Ao, you tell me, do you think I've been doing fine?"

The tension grew, as the place went silent, she was smiling, like nothing ever happened when she was gone. Did she really just forget about everything? To mom and dad, to me! I wanted to talk back, but she replied to Olivia like she was back from a vacation.

"Phew, I'm tired, hey Olivia, can you carry my stuff back to my room, it's been awhile since I've been there. And Kiiro, we can talk later about this, ok?"

I was confused, why is she acting so normal about this, I was mad but she brushed it off easily. Is she ignoring me!? One way or another, I was gonna get my answers later, so I went back upstairs and to my room. I was playing on my computer, trying to forget everything that happened, and waited for my sister to prepare. As I was thinking too much, my gameplay was messed up, putting pressure on myself, many thoughts, I lost the game, and layed back on my chair.

"Dammit, none of this makes sense!"

As all of this was going on, my sister knocked on the door, I allowed her in, and we sat down together on the bed. This time, the tension was different. It was awkward, like we were both unsure of where to start. It had been a while since we last had a talk, and that silence seemed to stretch longer than it ever had before.

"So Kiiro, how are you now?"

I suddenly felt a trigger, a rush of emotions that I couldn't hold back. Everything I had been bottling up came pouring out.

"I don't know! You left and I was alone, why!? What was so important for you to leave!? I was scared, and mad, confused even, you were the only one I could talk to, and when you left, everything was gone, high school finished and I didn't know what to do. My powers aren't waking up and I feel very afraid about myself, on what I'm going to do! What am I going to d-"

Before I could finish, she hugged me, and cried. She told me that she was sorry, she regretted leaving me. I believed that she was trying to play it cool all this time, so I calmed down after that.

"I'm sorry Kiiro, I knew that I shouldn't have left you, I knew I should have told you sooner, I had no choice though. Let me get straight to the point. After receiving a letter from Olivia, I knew that I had to return. And so, I'm here now, and I'll do everything to help you. Ok?"

She's still hiding the truth, if I had known, maybe I would have understood more. My thoughts of being held on hold like a phone call is killing me, but.

She said that she will help me, how can she, when everything has already taken its course. I don't have much time left, or even have it in the first place. I wonder how this will play out, but my expectations have died down. So I asked her.

"Ao, how are you going to help me exactly? Look at me, I'm just- here, and nothing else."

As she looked at me, she asked me a question.

"Well first, what are you dealing with right now? Since I was gone, I had a few experiences myself~"

I didn't know what she meant by that, but It's not gonna hurt to tell, not like I have anything going on for me anyways. But I had to think about this first.

It's been awhile since I had a planning system. So I guess the first logical answer would be for me to awaken my power, if she could really help me with that, even if it's too late, then I will not hesitate to do whatever it takes.

"My powers aren't waking up, I'm 18 sis. I should have gotten it but I didn't."

As I paused for a moment, thinking about this decision, I added again.

"Wasn't the deadline at the age of 18, that's what they said or whatever, If you can really help, I am open to suggestions."

She smiled, and told me the most unexpected thing. That she can help me with that. It's possible for my powers to still wake itself.

As I was confused for a moment, I had a thought that this could change everything. All that I had once believed, all that was grounded in science and logic, suddenly felt like fiction. This, whatever this was, could be my ticket to something completely different, something I never could have imagined.

As I was excited, she told me to rest for the day, and prepare for tomorrow, she said something about training me. Training? What did she mean by that? But I didn't question it, instead, I nodded, eager to see where this would lead.
