Chapter 6 - Fulfilling Promise

The memories stopped as the formations started to fade away, the other me felt something in his heart that connected me to him. As the feeling settled in, everything turned into despair, frustration and self pity. But I was hoping now that this is not the end. I am unsure if I can make it right. But I can certainly try and start with myself.

As I endured the pain, which felt ten times stronger, I stood back up, and grabbed the chains with my bare hands, I screamed as I tried ripping them off. The boy did the same, screaming in pain.

The final struggle happened, I finally unlocked the first restrain. He was half free, while we looked at each other.

He seemed like he wanted to speak, so I didn't interfere, I wanted to hear what he had to say to myself. It went for a few seconds before he mustered a word.

"Did you.."

I listened carefully, as I waited.

"Did you regret it?"

I couldn't say anything at first, I knew what he meant, and I do regret it.

"Yeah, I do."

We both stopped at that moment, I knew that changing into this version of me now was not the ideal situation I wanted. I wanted to go back to the things they were, but life is always changing. One thing I know for sure though, is that it's never too late.

"But it's not too late, I'm sorry that you had to endure my pain. Our pain. But you're not alone anymore. We can do this together, if you'll trust me again. It's never too late to change."

I knew that I had to make this promise, I wasn't going to hold back anymore. This time, it'll be alright.

So I lent my hand to him, expecting him to take it, I waited. He had a concerning look, thinking for a while, until he finally took it. As we placed our hands together to the final and last obstacle, the last chain that was holding him for so long.

The pain came back, as we had to struggle, and as it flooded towards us, we didn't care, because all we wanted was to be free again. And as the last chain was broken, we finally embraced each other.

I hugged him, as he did the same, we were crying, but we were as one again, a balance that was forgotten, but freed once again. The surroundings of our area started collapsing, the threads and vines were breaking apart, everything was becoming more clearer now.

We smiled, for the first time In many years, I finally smiled again, and I can tell, it wasn't something bad, because it came from the heart.

As we glowed, we were merging back, once separated but not anymore. I woke to the real world, opening my eyes in the process, and Olivia with her hands out.

"I get it now. This was your power, Olivia? What you did with my sister was-"

As she nodded and smiled at me, I knew what she meant. I understand that I passed the training, and trials that were meant for me and her before. I know now that I had to forgive and accept myself to start anew.

"Thank you, Olivia. I'm sorry for- everything."

She walked up to me, and put her hands on my shoulder while smiling.

"Your welcome, Master. Everything will be alright now."

I smiled again, for the first time seen by Olivia in years. She seemed shocked. The only one who ever saw me smile brightly was my sister before she left, but now. I'm just happy.
