Chapter 25 - So That's What Happened

"Luke?!" Light shouted around the house but there was no sound.

After putting Pacifica to bed in her room, Light looked around the whole house, but there was really no sign of Luke. Light couldn't understand what was going on. Both Pacifica and Luke considered each other real siblings, so everything was really incomprehensible to him.

Light thought he should wait until Pacifica woke up, but then he remembered that he had to warm up his friend.

He immediately took out as many heat packs from his Sub-Space as he could carry and began to place each one on Pacifica's body.

Since this was no time to be embarrassed, he made sure to place the heat packs all over her except for her private parts.

He also took out some fresh water, some chocolates, and one of the hamburgers he had prepared earlier, put them on the table, and waited. Really, the only thing to do was wait for Pacifica to wake up.

It was obvious how bitter and tired the woman was, Light had a face as if he really hated himself.

Maybe he had left his two true friends here.

Still, there was nothing to do, Light just had to wait for her to wake up for the answers he would get from Pacifica.

After almost two hours, Light reluctantly fell asleep. After such a big cold, travelling such a huge distance on top of that, and fighting for his life with a zombie on top of that, even though he had levelled up, he was tired.

Nevertheless, he started to hear someone calling him in his dream.

"L...."

"Lig....."

"Light!"

After a few shouts, Light suddenly opened his eyes to find Pacifica crying and looking at him.

"Light....Sniff..." While crying and sniffling, Pacifica suddenly hugged Light and waited. Light, who thought that he should return her hug, hugged Pasifica tightly and tried to calm her down.

"It's okay...It's okay, calm down. Everything is over now." Light, who tried to comfort the woman hugging her with a few sweet words, was successful in this, Pasifica's crying stopped and she just sat down with a bitter expression.

"Thank you...your heat packets saved my life. And I apologise, you wasted such precious things for me..."

Pasifica's words made Light smile. Light didn't want to make a decision right away, after all, there was still a system he could use, but he was relieved to see that Pasifica still hadn't changed, just a little bit bitter and sad.

"Don't even think about it, why didn't you eat what was on the table? I left it all for you." At Light's words, Pacifica looked at the chocolate wafers, hamburger and a bottle of water behind her and then turned to Light and shook her head in denial.

Light seemed to be quite surprised by this.

"I have more, eat a little and rest, I want to hear what's going on." Light's words made Pasifica's face disappear. This woman's face was so dark that Light wanted to cry for her.

However, Pacifica literally gobbled up the food in front of her like a tornado and drank the entire bottle of water in three seconds.

"Thank God..." Light smiled at Pacifica's words and then said, "I'm sorry, I put heat packs everywhere except in private places, but you know, that's not my job, take these and please tell me everything after you've done your job." and handed the four heat packs in his hand to Pacifica.

As soon as Pacifica nodded as if she understood, she managed to return to the room not even three minutes later and sat back on her bed. With tears in her eyes again, Pasifica finally found the courage to speak and opened her mouth:

"Luke and I were here when this bloody apocalypse started, we bought a lot of blankets and food because you gave us so many warnings, we even bought supplies with the money you sent us, but....."

Pacifica started biting her lip as she spoke, biting so hard that it was not long before her frozen lip started to bleed.

Realising this, Light took out a napkin from the inside pocket of the coat he was wearing and handed it to Pasifica and then took off his coat and made Pasifica put it on.

After that, Pacifica, who was looking deeply at Light, began to continue her speech:

"We were living properly, I mean, even when the weather was incredibly cold, we managed to live thanks to your suggestions, but....one day they came..."

"Them?"

"Yes... Seven of them visited every single house in this area. They said that they were looking for new people to join their group and that they wanted volunteers to join them, that they would be given hot food and clean water and even warm shelter."

"Did any of them have an eagle symbol? In an item or a piece of clothing?" As soon as Light asked this question, Pacifica gave him a sudden look, shook her head up and down and said, "They all had it...".

Light took his eyes off Pacifica after this answer. He was clenching his jaw so tightly that the sound of his teeth grinding echoed throughout the room.

"Please continue."

"We were almost out of food and drink. Those people said there was only room for one more. Luke directly pushed me aside, took almost all the supplies we had left and even almost all the blankets and stuff, and left me without even looking back...The people with the eagle symbol actually wanted to take me too, but Luke clearly said [Pacifica is useless] and pushed me aside."

At that moment, Light realised why most of the things in the house had disappeared. He had been to this house many times before, and the fact that the whole house was empty and that Pasifica only had two blankets and a pillow made it all the more understandable.

Somehow this woman had managed to survive all this time. It was really astonishing.
