Present time at Kingdom of Gaelen
Anezka's Pov
Today marks a significant moment in my life, as my mother is set to introduce me to the royal family. A flutter of nerves dances in my stomach as I wonder how they will react to me. Will they welcome me with open arms or turn their noses up in disdain because I come from the mortal world?
At this moment, I find myself seated in front of the ornate dressing table. My new friend Rhea is meticulously styling my hair. Even though she is younger than I am, her skill is remarkable, and I can't help but admire her deft hands as she transforms my hair into something that feels regal. Despite her talents, I can't shake the feeling of inadequacy that often plagues me. I struggle with the simplest tasks, and my clumsy nature seems to always ruin things at the most unfortunate times.
"Here you go, Princess Anezka! You are now ready for the grand introduction," Rhea said, her eyes sparkling with excitement as the corners of her mouth lifted into a bright, encouraging smile. The warmth of her expression offered a spark of comfort, yet the term 'princess' jolted me with a wave of anxiety.
I realized that being called by such a title would draw attention from everyone, a situation I had never been accustomed to. Until now, I had lived my life as an introvert, quietly blending into the background, practically invisible to the bustling mortal world around me.
I managed to return a nervous smile to Rhea and softly replied, "Could you please not call me princess? Just call me by my name; I think I would feel a bit more comfortable that way." To my relief, Rhea nodded with understanding and said, "Okay, Anezka. Now, we really shouldn't be late for dinner. The entire royal family will be present."
As I was settled into the elegant chair, my gaze was fixed on the large, ornate mirror before me, studying my reflection amidst the lavish surroundings. Rhea stepped behind me, her presence both reassuring and grounding.
She placed her hands gently on my shoulders, the warmth of her touch contrasting with the seriousness that overtook her expression. "Listen, Anezka," she said, her voice low and earnest. "I'm just a maid, but as your friend, I want to share some advice for today. There are a few members of the royal family who shouldn't be trusted. They may speak sweetly, but remember that they carry sharp knives hidden behind their backs, ready to strike when the moment is right. So be cautious. Engage with everyone, but keep your guard up—trust only your parents."
As I listened to Rhea's advice, a wave of anxiety washed over me. Her words seemed to amplify my fears, and I realized just how naive I could be in certain situations.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied myself, determined to face the evening ahead, hoping that it would unfold positively. "Thank you, Rhea, for your invaluable advice," I said, looking into her eyes. "I truly appreciate your support and guidance. I will definitely keep your words in mind." I smiled warmly at her, feeling grateful for her presence.
Rhea flashed a warm smile in response. "Now hurry up, it's time to go," she urged, her voice a melodic reminder as she led me through the winding corridors of the magnificent palace. I still found it difficult to navigate the various rooms in this magnificent palace.
As we approached the royal dining hall, a wave of anticipation washed over me. The moment we stood in front of the door, I was met with a breathtaking sight that elicited a whirlwind of emotions—nervousness and a deep sense of awe.
The grand dining room was as enchanting as I remembered from my lunch with my parents, yet today it pulsed with life. All twenty chairs were filled with members of the royal family, their elegant presence adding an air of sophistication to the already stately atmosphere.
At the head of the table, in the largest chair adorned with exquisite carvings, sat my mother, the Queen of the Kingdom of Gaelen, Queen Serena Orien. Her very name resonated with authority, evoking a sense of reverence. She held her head high, radiating confidence and grace. The way she sat poised, exuding an almost palpable power, was nothing short of remarkable. I couldn't help but feel a mixture of pride and trepidation as I stepped further into the room, ready to take my place among the royal lineage.
As I stepped into the dining hall Rhea followed closely behind me, her presence a comforting reminder of companionship. My mother sat at the head of the table, her face lighting up with a welcoming smile that radiated warmth and reassurance. "Welcome, my child. Come sit next to me on my right side," she beckoned gently.
I approached her, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, and took my place in the beautifully adorned chair beside her. The moment I settled in, a procession of maids entered the room, each one gracefully balancing an array of colorful dishes on their trays.
The clattering of silverware and soft whispers filled the air as they began serving everyone around the table, their movements synchronized and elegant. Once all the dishes were artfully arranged on the table, each plate a masterpiece in its own right, the maids quietly exited the hall, Rhea among them.
A wave of anxiety washed over me as she left, but I quickly redirected my attention to the meal before me. After my mother took the first bite, everyone else started to eat as well. It was amazing to see how everyone respected my mother, as they savored not just the meal, but the moment itself.
As I gaze down at the meal set before me, a wave of surprise washes over me when I recognize my favorite dish. The vibrant colors and enticing aromas stir a sense of nostalgia within me. I can't help but wonder how my mother knew to prepare this particular meal. It's as if she wasn't just a distant figure, but a silent observer of my life all along. The realization that she had been watching over me from afar all these years fills my heart with a deep emotional warmth, almost bringing me to tears.
