Chapter 24 - Worth It

Evangeline let the soft waves of the river wash over her, she found herself sinking lower until only her nose and eyes peeked above the surface. It was so warm and soothing to her sore muscles, she couldn't remember the last time she felt this at peace and aside from the nagging sensation at the back of her mind that she wasn't alone… everything was perfect.

Her instincts screamed danger but she tried to reason it away.

Maybe she was just on edge because of what she did with Candor— the biting, touching, looking at her like she was his next meal.

Yes that was why she was being so paranoid.

Her body flushed again at the memory, and she cursed under her breath. She needed to get her head on straight.

But the feeling didn't go away.

Instead, it got worse.

Her pulse quickened in her veins and suddenly she felt so aware of everything from the sound of the river rushing past her to the wind rustling through the trees to the chirp of birds.
