Chapter 6 - Mina, Be the Bride.

Later in the evening of the same day, while Susan has been happily preparing to be a bride, a big bolt of news arrives.

Larry Drayton comes in with an immense look of anger.

"Dad, what's wrong with you? Why are you so angry?" Susan asks him, worried.

"Darling, is there any news from that family?"

"Don't mention the Walters family to me! It was clearly stated between us that Susie and Eric Walters were getting married, so why did it become Ethan Walters suddenly?"

When it comes to Ethan Walters's name, everyone in the family is a bit scared.

"Honey, are you mistaken? Everyone knows that Ethan is a mad person. He is psychopathic. How can it possibly become him from Eric?"

"The Walters family personally informed me today that Susie and Ethan will get married this month."

"What! If you want me to marry a mad person, doesn't that make me a widow even before I marry him? Dad, I don't want it! I don't want to marry a person that is likely to kill me, I want to marry Eric Walters." Susan whines like a spoilt brat, even bringing tears into her own eyes.

"Honey, make it clear to the Walters, how can our daughter be allowed to marry someone in such a state? Even they are scared of him. How can they ask us to do this?"

"Mom, I know, it must be that bitch Mina, she must have told that family to replace me, so the family was furious..." Susan starts, suddenly becoming calculative "...Yes, it must be her fault, I won't marry a scary person, and she will marry him instead if I want her to. Right Mum?"

Hearing the muffled noise outside, Mina opens her door a crack and hears Susan's words, she had gone upstairs to her room since morning but now, she had heard their conversation, and she walks down the stairs quickly to plead her cause.

"Susan, do you want to save your face or just keep it in the dark with these words you are sputtering? I didn't say a word to anybody last night. I think this is what you get for trying to get everything on a golden platter." Mina shoots back at Susan as soon as she gets to the mini gathering.

Mina is so angry that even though she had offered her chastity for her, but Susan does not appreciate it and only spits out insults at her for doing it for her.

A sharp slap resounds on Mina's face, Larry says with a calm face, "How dare you talk to your sister in that way?"

Mina covers her inflamed cheeks with her palms and looks at the few people in front of her, sadness overflowing from her heart into her eyes even though she struggles to not let her weakness show in front of them.

"Since you never planned to regard me as family, why did you adopt me then?" Mina half yells and runs up the stairs, locking the door behind her again.

She gave her most precious things to the family. She didn't expect them to be grateful, but such an attitude is really chilling.

Mina locked herself up for the rest of the day, until Greta knocked gently on the door at night.

"Mina, you must be starving because you didn't eat lunch. I'll have someone make you what you like. Come down and eat some."

"I'm not hungry."

"Eat even if you're not hungry. You worked hard last night. I know it all. I am a woman too. That man must be rude and cruel. Come on love, don't blame your father for being so cruel. He was in a bad mood. Mom couldn't help it either but I told him off after he did that."

Greta persuades Mina for a long time before she opens the door. Greta takes Mina's hand and says, "Don't be angry with your sister, she has been so bad tempered since she was a child, come down to eat, the whole family is waiting for you, and your sister is there too. She and I know it was wrong. She wants to apologize for her bad words too."

"Does she really know she's wrong?" Mina inquires, feeling very suspicious about that. Susan is not one to apologize for her wrong doings.

Greta nods and pulls her downstairs, giving Susan a look.

Susan meets them at the foot of the staircase, looking chastened.

"Mina, I had been too thoughtless in the morning and in the afternoon too. You know I always like to talk nonsense, please don't mind me."

"Look, your sister has apologized to you. In the end, it's all about the family, they are always the ones that remains when the world leaves you, so just forgive her. Let's sit down and eat."

The eagerness of the two, especially Susan, who had never liked her, and now is so gentle, Mina can't help but feel that something is terribly wrong.

She is pulled to the table by the two of them, serving her vegetables and soup, which is something she had never received from them before. They hardly even called her down for dinner, and times they did, she only over got steamed dumplings and other small foods but she had never paid attention to it.

"Mom, are you trying to say something to me?" She asks when she sees Greta staring at her.

"Dear, I won't hide it from you. The Walters have decided to marry into our family and it's Ethan. But whosoever it is, it is a thing of joy and it is worth celebrating. This is the affluent Walter's family we are talking about. Why don't you marry him instead of your sister?"

It takes her nothing more than five seconds to process her words. "What?" This news is a bolt from the blue for Mina.

"Mom, isn't the marriage between Susan and that family? She has been so excited about it, hasn't she? Why is it now related to me? How old am I? I won't agree." Mina is going crazy on her seat, on the inside, but she still fought to stay rational.

Greta has a hypocritical smile on her face, "Mina, darling, you have graduated this year, so it's normal to talk about marriage. Its already time for you to settle down, help us to get this acquaintance with the wealthy family. You'll see that they will treat you so well." She pauses, reaching unsuccessfully for Mina's hands on the table but she withdraws it immediately.

Unfazed, she continues. "Besides, you know what kind of family the Walters family is. Everyone wants to have a relationship with them. If it wasn't for your grandfather's kindness to the family in the past, we wouldn't have this chance. It's only your luck to marry into that family."

Susan keeps nodding with every statement that Greta mutters.

"Please, don't say no?" Greta asks, keeping her eyes level with Mina's.
