Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Shadow Arrows and Blades

Kai tightened his grip on the twin shadow swords in his hands. Their edges pulsed with dark energy, humming like whispers from another realm. Across the clearing, the wild dog-like boss prowled in a wide circle, its glowing red eyes locked onto him. It bared fangs dripping with venom that sizzled as they hit the ground.

Elara, standing a few meters away, nocked a shadow arrow into her bow, her gaze fixed on the scorpion-like boss. Its massive pincers clicked rhythmically, sending vibrations through the ground. A spiked tail arched menacingly above its armored body, poised to strike.

Elara glanced at Kai. "Ready for this?"

Kai smirked, his confidence bolder than it had ever been. "I was born ready."

Without another word, they split up.

Elara vs. the Scorpion Boss

Elara moved with practiced precision, circling the massive creature as it lunged forward. Her shadow bow crackled with energy as she released a volley of arrows aimed at its joints. The scorpion's thick carapace deflected most of the shots, but a well-placed arrow pierced one of its legs, slowing its advance.

The orb's power coursed through her veins, amplifying her senses. She could hear the subtle shifts in the scorpion's movement, anticipate its attacks, and adapt her strategy in real time.

The beast retaliated with a vicious swipe of its pincer. Elara leaped back, her movements fluid and almost graceful, as if the shadows themselves guided her.

She whispered to herself, "Time to get creative."

Summoning her shadow powers, she formed a net of dark tendrils that wrapped around the scorpion's legs, holding it in place. But the creature let out an ear-splitting screech, shattering the net and charging at her with renewed fury.

Elara rolled to the side, landing in a crouch. She raised her bow again, this time summoning an arrow infused with her soul energy. The arrow glowed faintly, its tip sharp enough to pierce even the toughest armor.

She aimed for the exposed underbelly of the scorpion and fired. The arrow struck true, lodging deep into its body. The beast thrashed wildly, its movements growing more erratic.

Kai vs. the Wild Dog Boss

Kai faced the wild dog-like boss head-on, his twin shadow blades shimmering in his hands. The beast growled low, its muscles coiling as it prepared to pounce.

"Come on, then," Kai taunted, spreading his arms wide.

The beast lunged, its jaws snapping inches from Kai's face. But he was faster. With a burst of speed, he sidestepped the attack and slashed at its side. The blades cut deep, leaving trails of black mist in their wake.

The wild dog howled in pain, but instead of retreating, it seemed to grow stronger. Its body expanded, muscles rippling as its claws elongated.

Kai grinned. "So that's how you want to play it?"

He tapped into his Phantom Strike ability, disappearing in a blur of motion. He reappeared behind the beast, delivering a swift blow to its hind legs. The creature stumbled but quickly recovered, spinning around to face him.

Their battle became a deadly dance, Kai's speed and agility matched by the beast's raw power. He darted in and out, landing blows but taking a few hits in return.

As the fight dragged on, Kai felt the orb's influence growing stronger. His movements became more aggressive, his strikes more brutal. A voice whispered in his mind, urging him to unleash his full power.

{"Don't hold back," the voice said. "Finish it."}

Kai hesitated, the weight of the orb's power pressing down on him. But as the beast charged again, he decided to listen.

He channeled all his energy into his blades, fusing them into a single massive sword. With a roar, he brought the weapon down on the beast, cleaving it in two.

Victory and Aftermath

Elara and Kai regrouped in the clearing, both breathing heavily. The scorpion and wild dog bosses lay defeated behind them, their bodies dissolving into shadows.

Elara studied Kai, noticing the wild look in his eyes. "Are you okay?"

Kai nodded, but his voice was strained. "Yeah… just tired."

The orb hovered between them, its purple glow brighter than ever. It pulsed once, sending a wave of energy through the clearing.

Elara frowned. "This thing… it's changing us."

Kai didn't respond. Instead, he turned away, staring into the dark forest ahead.

"Let's keep moving," he said. "The orb's power is the only way we're getting through this."

Elara hesitated but eventually followed, her shadow bow slung over her shoulder. As they disappeared into the darkness, the orb's glow cast long, eerie shadows around them, hinting at the trials yet to come.

" You got only 14 days,Lysa. And you might be under the darkness influence," King Morphine said crossing his arms on his chest.

" I know, and I already have an idea of what to do," Queen Lysandra said with her firm confident voice.

" Will it work?" Billy asked.

" It's an excellent idea , you wait and see" Her mom answered.

King Morphine turned and took few steps and then stopped.

" There is need to maintain a transparent government, Lysa. May I hear the gist of your idea please?"

Queen Lysandra took her time to organize her thoughts. Then, she spoke.

" The kingdom is in unstable state to face the incoming danger. And I think it's about time I unlock the land's magic. If I restore magic to it's free state, Avan kingdom shall stand strong against the darkness."

" And how will you do that my queen?" King Morphine asked turning to face her.

" You will take me to Shawana temple, and I will do my thing."

"When,mom?" Billy asked.

" As soon as I am done strengthening the weakened bonds of this family." The queen said maintaining eye contact with the king.

King Morphine gazed at her and said," In 14 days Lysa, only 14." He then turned and left.

Billy and Ella stared at her and their intense patient gaze jolted her mind back to the previous subject.

" Oh, I almost forgot your story Billy. So, where were we?" She asked.

" We hadn't started mom,"

" Alright alright. This is what happened..."
