The sense of security that came with newfound abilities allowed Jiang Yi to sleep soundly for the first time since the apocalypse began. But a sudden, sharp pain in his chest jolted him awake. Instinctively, he reached to his right, but his hand grasped nothing.
In that instant, Jiang Yi broke out in cold sweat. Where was his knife? In a panic, he fumbled around, only to realize with horror that the skull-slicing knife he had placed beside him was gone!
"Don't move!" A sharp, commanding voice rang out, making Jiang Yi's whole body tremble. He immediately looked toward the source of the voice in the darkness. The dim light of the moon seeped into the room, and as Jiang Yi fully woke up, he was horrified to see a shadow standing about four or five meters away from him. He quickly called out, "Don't be alarmed, I'm alive!"
However, the other person seemed to have known this already, and her voice was ice-cold. "Where are the others you were with? Where is he?"
Jiang Yi was stunned. "Another person? There's no one else. It's just me!"
The woman's voice from the darkness was filled with disbelief. "Don't try to lie. I know what you two did during the day! You heartless scum..."
Jiang Yi was completely confused. What was this all about? Realizing that the person was a woman, Jiang Yi's heart relaxed somewhat. But without his weapon, he had no choice but to submit. He decided to be honest and replied, "This classmate, you've got the wrong person. I don't know who you're talking about. It's just me here."
As soon as the words left his mouth, a blinding light suddenly lit up in front of him. Jiang Yi instinctively raised his hand to shield his eyes, and it took a moment for him to adjust to the brightness. "Don't move, or don't blame me for being rude!" the voice hissed, filled with intense anger.
Jiang Yi felt a wave of frustration. He could hardly believe it—how could he have been so reckless? Just after gaining new abilities, he had let his guard down and failed to notice someone sneaking into his room and taking his weapon! That was a deadly mistake in the apocalypse.
Thankfully, the light revealed the intruder's appearance, and Jiang Yi's heart skipped a beat when he saw who it was. The blinding gleam of cold metal flashed before his eyes, and the sharp tip of an arrow was aimed directly at his head.
Jiang Yi's heart raced. He hadn't expected the threat to come from a bow and arrow!
Standing before him was a tall woman wearing a pink tracksuit. Her hood obscured most of her hair, and she had a black mask covering her face. In her hands, she held a bow, its string pulled back to the limit. A titanium steel arrow gleamed ominously, its deadly potential unmistakable.
This woman was clearly a student from the school, but how did she have a bow and arrow?
If the woman had been more careful, she would have realized that there were many contradictions in Jiang Yi's words. However, at that moment, her emotions were running high, and the past events had left her agitated, making her believe that Jiang Yi was telling half-truths and half-lies. Yet, she couldn't help but sneer. "If that's the case, I'll kill you now. Tomorrow, when they come, they'll deal with them too."
Jiang Yi hesitated. "But... we agreed that tomorrow, I'll be watching from the window. If I don't show up, they won't enter."
When Guo Hanxue heard this, her face hardened with frost. "You're lying. If you were really their companion, how could they not come looking for you if you didn't show up?"
Jiang Yi forced a troubled smile. "Sister, why are you still believing in this? If we were really friends, would they leave me alone in a building full of zombies? To them, I'm just cannon fodder. People like us, ordinary folks, don't get to be friends with those who have powers!"
As soon as he said that, Jiang Yi was taken aback by his own words, a lingering doubt flashing in his mind.
Guo Hanxue paused for a moment and then asked, "Were you really not involved in that incident yesterday?"
Jiang Yi, with a bitter smile, hugged his head. "Big sister, I don't even know what you're talking about! You saw it yourself, I wasn't with those two. After we entered the dorm, we separated!"
Guo Hanxue frowned, studying Jiang Yi's face, but it didn't seem like he was lying. With a sigh, her tense body relaxed slightly, clearly grappling with the difficulty of possibly taking a life. "Alright then, we'll wait until morning and see if they show up. But don't even think about running away. I'm sure your speed isn't faster than my arrow."
Jiang Yi quickly nodded, eager to comply. "Okay, Senior, I won't go anywhere, I'll stay right here." Though he said this, his mind was already working at full speed, calculating how to escape from this dangerous woman.
He knew his words had numerous holes, and if the woman waited until morning, those two guys wouldn't return. By then, his lies would be exposed.
So, Jiang Yi, who seemed particularly obedient, was actually scheming in his mind! His current speed was 9, the peak of normal human capabilities! If he could catch her off guard, he had a high chance of success in attacking her!
However, with his knife in her possession, he wasn't sure if he could subdue her quickly without a weapon.
The first priority was to get his weapon back!
As Jiang Yi observed the woman closely, he noticed she lived alone in this dorm, and her complexion and expression were in no worse condition than those of the well-protected girls in the cafeteria. In fact, she might even be better off. It was unclear whether she had been here since the beginning or had just arrived, like him.
Just as he was studying her, a small, awkward sound came from the room, and Jiang Yi was stunned. Guo Hanxue's face turned red beneath her mask, cursing herself for her stomach growling so loudly.
Jiang Yi quickly responded with a particularly friendly smile. "Senior, are you hungry? I've got a lot of food in my bag, don't hesitate to help yourself!"
Guo Hanxue shot him a cold glance. "Stop talking. Right now, you're my prisoner. This food is my spoils."
Jiang Yi almost cursed out loud. How shameless! The things she was taking were clearly ones he had scavenged! But, holding back his anger, he smiled in a friendly manner. "Yes, yes, it's all yours, Senior, feel free to take whatever you want!"
Though Guo Hanxue was somewhat embarrassed, she had gone two days without food or water. Hearing that there was food in the bag, she couldn't resist any longer.
After thinking for a moment, she looked at Jiang Yi, small and thin like a chick, and thought, "He's not going to be able to pull anything funny." She slowly lowered her bow, keeping her eyes on him, and began to crouch down to reach for her backpack.
"This is my chance!" Jiang Yi's eyes gleamed with resolve. The moment she moved to unzip her backpack, he darted forward like a small leopard! At his peak speed, the four-meter distance was covered almost instantaneously! He aimed straight for the black knife beside the bag...
"Whoosh!" The sound of cutting air was followed by Guo Hanxue's furious exclamation, "I knew you were up to no good!"
"Not good!" Jiang Yi realized too late. He had no time to grab the weapon. His left hand retracted just as fast, but to his horror, Guo Hanxue's strike was faster than he had anticipated. Even though he had used all his speed, he couldn't evade her deadly blow!
