Chapter 9 - Assassination

The heavy metal composite bow slammed down hard on Jiang Yi's arm! "Ah!" The pain shot through his body like his hand had been crushed by a car, and he couldn't help but scream out in agony. Cradling his left arm with his right hand, he looked down to see his entire left arm visibly swelling. A purple-red lump had formed, oozing dark red blood...

Before Jiang Yi could even process what had happened, Guo Hanxue had already sprung to her feet, quickly drawing another arrow, the pitch-black composite bow drawn taut once more.

"Whoosh!" The sound of the arrow slicing through the air filled Jiang Yi's ears, and a surge of terror gripped him. He hadn't expected this woman to actually shoot! Ignoring the excruciating pain in his left arm, he rolled to the side just in time to narrowly avoid the deadly arrow. The sharp missile whizzed past his hair and slammed into the ground with a heavy thud. The granite floor was rock-hard, and the arrow only made a small dent before ricocheting away. But the tiny stone that was hit by the arrow flew up, cutting across Jiang Yi's cheek like a knife, instantly causing warm blood to trickle down his face...

At this point, Jiang Yi had no time to dwell on the pain. With a curse, he yelled, "Are you crazy, you lunatic!" He turned and bolted out of the room, sprinting for the stairs.

Enraged, Guo Hanxue loosed another arrow, but by then Jiang Yi had already darted out of the room, and her furious shot only sank into the wooden doorframe, unable to hit its target.

"You can't escape!" Guo Hanxue's hands were lightning-quick, and as soon as she released the arrow, she followed right behind. She hadn't expected both of her arrows to miss Jiang Yi, and for a brief moment, doubt flickered in her eyes.

However, the realization that she'd been tricked pushed all other thoughts aside. Without a second's hesitation, she chased after him!

As an archer, Guo Hanxue's vision was excellent, and she was very familiar with the terrain around her. Even in the pitch-black surroundings, she was able to track Jiang Yi's movements with ease.

Jiang Yi could hear her footsteps drawing closer and, cursing under his breath, he thought to himself, If only I had my knife with me, I wouldn't be letting this little madwoman get the best of me. But deep down, he knew better—he had already been beaten by this woman once and was well aware of her strength. He wasn't foolish enough to stand and fight. Better to run for now, and I'll have my chance to get back at her later.

But Guo Hanxue's pursuit was relentless. Just as Jiang Yi managed to scramble to the fifth floor, he felt a dangerous gust of wind whip past him. He instinctively curled up, taking a roll to avoid the attack, only to feel a blade-like gust of air slice through the space above him.

Bang! The fast-moving arrow grazed his head, slamming into the nearby glass window. The entire pane exploded into a shower of shards, and Jiang Yi, momentarily stunned, looked up to see the destruction. The sight almost made him lose control of his bladder. The plastic window frame had been bent out of shape by the arrow's penetrating force, and he couldn't believe it. How can a bow have such power? He was more terrified than ever—this kind of power was greater than most handguns!

At that point, Jiang Yi wasn't even thinking about revenge anymore. All he wanted was to get as far away from this terrifying woman as possible. Three arrows had already missed him, but Guo Hanxue seemed either furious or desperate, her breathing becoming more ragged. She stomped her foot in frustration, her face darkened with rage, and she gave chase once more.

Jiang Yi didn't dare look back, focusing all his energy on escaping. As he reached the fourth floor, he spotted the zombie he had kicked down the stairs earlier, now struggling to climb back up after spending hours to do so. He wasn't about to let it get in his way again. With a swift kick, the zombie was sent tumbling back down.

Just as he was about to make a run for it while the zombie was still down, Jiang Yi suddenly froze, a malicious grin spreading across his face. He stopped running, turned, and charged into the fourth floor. Every door he passed, he kicked with all his might, shattering glass and sending door handles flying.

By the time Guo Hanxue reached the fourth floor, she saw Jiang Yi's figure ahead, and he had already wrecked a dozen rooms. She hesitated, confused by his behavior, but then immediately raised her bow and shot.

Jiang Yi, his nerves frayed, hit the ground to avoid the arrow, then shouted back at Guo Hanxue, "You crazy woman! If you've got the guts, come over here and try to stop me! Or else, I'll get you first, starting with some fun!"

His words, though out of sheer frustration, triggered a memory in Guo Hanxue's mind. Her face flushed red with rage. "You won't get the chance! Today, I'm going to act as heaven's executioner!" With that, she drew another arrow from her quiver, her eyes burning with anger.

Jiang Yi rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath as he got back up, then bolted again. Heaven's executioner? Why don't you go restore the Ming dynasty while you're at it?

Knowing there was no reasoning with her, Jiang Yi sprinted toward the stairwell at the opposite end of the hall.

Bang! He thought another arrow was on its way, but when he heard the sound of something hitting behind him, he instinctively ducked his head. However, there was no arrow this time—only the sound of frenzied pounding and a terrifying scream echoing from behind him.

With a heavy thud, the hard metal composite bow struck Jiang Yi's arm! "Ah!" The intense pain, as if his hand had been run over by a car, made Jiang Yi cry out in agony. Looking down at his left hand, which had swelled visibly, he could see a dark red bruise forming...

Before he could even process what had happened, Guo Hanxue had already quickly stood up, drawing her bow and nocking another arrow. The black composite bow was pulled back once again with impressive speed!

"Whoosh!" The sound of the arrow cutting through the air shocked Jiang Yi. He hadn't expected her to actually shoot! Ignoring the pain in his left hand, he quickly rolled away just in time to narrowly dodge the terrifying arrow. The arrow whizzed past his hair, embedding itself in the hard granite floor with a sharp crack. The arrow only made a small hole before ricocheting off, but the small stone it struck flew out like a blade and grazed Jiang Yi's cheek, sending a sharp sting as blood trickled down his face...

Jiang Yi had no time to worry about that now. Swearing loudly, "Are you crazy? Madwoman!" He turned and ran, quickly sprinting towards the stairs and out of the room!

Guo Hanxue, fuming, shot another arrow, but by then Jiang Yi had already turned a corner. The furious titanium steel arrowhead could only vent its anger against the wooden door frame!

"You can't escape!" Guo Hanxue's hands were fast. As soon as she fired the arrow, she chased after him! But to her surprise, neither of the two arrows hit Jiang Yi, and her eyes flickered with doubt for a moment...

But thinking of being tricked, Guo Hanxue had no time to hesitate, and she immediately continued her pursuit!

As an archery athlete, Guo Hanxue had excellent vision, and with her familiarity with the terrain, she was able to track Jiang Yi even in the pitch-black darkness!

Jiang Yi, hearing the sounds of pursuit behind him, cursed under his breath. If only he had his knife, he wouldn't have let this little girl bully him like this! But right now, with his knife still somewhere up ahead, he knew better than to fight. He had already been bested by this woman multiple times and knew she was formidable. It was better to escape first. He would get his revenge when the opportunity arose.

But Jiang Yi didn't anticipate how fast Guo Hanxue would be. Just as he reached the fifth floor after tumbling and rolling, he heard the sound of an arrow whistling through the air! He quickly ducked and rolled again, just barely avoiding the deadly wind that passed over his head...

"Boom!" The arrow, speeding like lightning, grazed Jiang Yi's scalp before slamming into the glass window ahead, shattering it with a deafening crash. The sight sent a shiver through Jiang Yi. He looked up in shock and saw the plastic window completely destroyed, with glass shards flying outwards in every direction!

The piercing power of the shot had deformed the entire window frame! "How is this possible? How can a bow have this kind of power?" Jiang Yi was genuinely terrified. This kind of destructive force was on par with a handgun!

At that moment, all thoughts of revenge were gone. Jiang Yi just wanted to get away as fast as he could and distance himself from this crazy woman! With three consecutive missed arrows, Guo Hanxue's breath grew heavier. Her frustration was palpable, but she continued to chase him down, the anger burning in her eyes.

Jiang Yi didn't dare look back. He just kept running for his life. When he reached the fourth floor, he saw the zombie he had kicked down earlier still struggling to climb up. It had spent over ten hours crawling back to the fourth floor! Without hesitation, Jiang Yi kicked it down once more.

Just as he was about to escape while the zombie was still down, he paused and grinned wickedly. He didn't run anymore, instead charging into the fourth floor and kicking open every door in his path. He shattered glass and sent door handles flying with every powerful kick!

By the time Guo Hanxue reached the fourth floor and saw his figure, Jiang Yi had already destroyed over a dozen rooms! She chased after him, her bow raised, ready to shoot again.

Jiang Yi, now completely on edge, dropped to the ground, dodging the arrow just in time. He shouted back, "Bitch, if you're so tough, come get me! If you don't catch me, I'll get you first—I'll have you dead before you know it!"

His words, filled with anger, reminded Guo Hanxue of something that made her face flush with rage. "You won't have another chance! Today, I will bring justice!" she shouted, pulling out another arrow from her quiver...

Jiang Yi rolled his eyes and kept running, muttering to himself, "Justice? You're going to take down the Qing dynasty while you're at it?"

He knew there was no reasoning with her now. As he ran toward the opposite staircase, his only thought was to escape her grasp...

"Boom!" He heard another explosion behind him, but it wasn't an arrow this time. Instead, a violent crashing sound echoed through the hallway.

It was Guo Hanxue's panicked scream. "Help! Don't come near me..."

Jiang Yi paused, confused. This fierce woman, who wouldn't hesitate to kill, was afraid of a few ordinary zombies? It must have been a trick. But he quickly ran up a few more steps and then heard a massive explosion from the fourth floor, as if something had detonated...

The entire fourth floor erupted into chaos. The strength and savagery of the zombies in this area had grown exponentially since the darkness fell, and the noise was like a stampede of wild beasts slamming into the doors.

Jiang Yi realized the situation had escalated far beyond what he could handle alone. As the doors he had destroyed were quickly being torn down, he knew he had to act fast before everything fell apart.

Guo Hanxue, her face pale, quickly fired her last remaining arrows at the nearest zombies. But more and more of them surged forward like hungry beasts! Her panic was evident as she reached for her quiver, only to find it empty.

Surrounded by over ten zombies, she didn't scream like a typical girl. Instead, she gritted her teeth, using the metal composite bow as a makeshift weapon to smash down one zombie after another. With a strength that defied her appearance, she struck one zombie so hard its eyes exploded, killing it instantly. However, despite her excellent marksmanship, her lack of close-combat experience showed. The effort of killing one zombie left her gasping for air.

Desperate, she gathered all her remaining strength and threw her hand forward. A pale blue light shot from her palm, slicing through two zombies' necks before they fell to the ground, their heads rolling at her feet.

The blue light kept going, smashing through a window with a loud crash, sending shards of glass flying. The zombies froze for a moment, disoriented by the sudden destruction. It was her chance to escape, but she failed to notice the decapitated zombie head beneath her feet. Stepping on it, she lost her balance and fell to the ground just as the zombies pounced on her.

The last thing she heard was her own desperate cries for help. "Please! I don't want to die... I don't want to become one of them!"

"That's what you get for lying down and waiting to die, huh?" A voice shouted from outside the zombie crowd. Guo Hanxue's eyes snapped open, a surge of survival instinct pushing her into action. She grabbed the nearest zombie's head and slammed it against the wall with all her might.

And just a few steps away, a figure holding a metal chair swung it wildly at the zombies circling around Guo Hanxue, fighting to protect her...
