" Hi, Evelyn," Luca said with a smile.
" Hi, what are you doing here?" Evelyn asked faintly.
" At least usher me in before asking me too many questions. Can I come in?" He asked, still smiling.
" Forgive my manners, please come in," Evelyn replied as she swung her hands to usher him in.
" Thank you," Luca said as he walked in.
" Martin is not at home," Evelyn said softly.
" I know, I'm not here to see him," Luca said as he sat on the couch.
" So why are you here?" Evelyn asked, rolling her eyes. She already knew why he came around.
" I'm here to see you," Luca said.
" For what exactly?" She asked, pretending not to know what he was talking about.
" Evelyn, stop with the pretence, you already know why I am," Luca said with a smile.
" No, I don't; please tell me why you're here," Evelyn said, looking confused.
" Fine! If that's what you want, I'll tell you. Have a seat first." He said softly.
" Ok….." Evelyn said as she sat on the couch.
" Why have you refused to sign the divorce papers?" He asked firmly.
" What papers are you talking about? The last time I checked nobody gave a divorce papers to sign, so what are you talking about?" Evelyn asked, looking away.
" Ok, maybe I didn't hear Helen but she made mention of you saying that you won't sign any divorce papers," Luca said.
" Yes, I said so. Do you have a problem with that?" Evelyn asked with a straight face.
" Yes, I do have a problem with that. Have you forgotten the initial agreement? You are to divorce Martin after three years with the three years having elapsed already, so what are you waiting for?" Luca asked, raising his voice.
" Well, I'm waiting for my man to come back to his senses," Evelyn said, rolling her eyes.
Luca burst into laughter and said;
" What man are you talking about? Is it the same Martin that I know is not into you, you're calling your man? Girl, wise up, you're not even in the same league as his; you don't expect to be truly in love with you; one thing I can tell for free is that he only used to satisfy his sexual needs during the periods that Helen wasn't available. You're not that special you are… … … … … … … …"
" Shut it this minute! Stop saying what you assume in your head, Martin loves me, that I'm certain of." Evelyn interrupted him angrily.
"I said what I said, and I'm not going back on my words. Martin never loved you; you are just his sex toy; you were never special to him." Luca said
" Enough!" Evelyn yelled, almost tearing up.
" Oh! You're in pain, what do you expect from a guy who hired you to act as his wife while he's still in love with his girlfriend?" Luca asked firmly.
" Enough Luca! Now, leave my house!" Evelyn yelled tears dropping down her cheeks.
" Your house, you say? It's not your house, it's Martin's house, the only person who has the right to it is Helen, not you." Luca said angrily as he stood up on his feet.
" I'm still the only lady he's legally married to!" Evelyn yelled, sobbing.
" It's a contract marriage, remember?"
Luca said.
" I don't care! As far as I'm concerned, I'm still the only lady the world knows as his wife." She said angrily.
" Well, that is about to change. Sign the damn papers and leave the marriage, let the rightful owner take her place." Luca said angrily.
" Where was she when he needed her the most?" Evelyn asked in tears.
" That was why she hired you; she wasn't ready for marriage then; what would you have her do, marry a man because his father insisted he get married? She has her dreams, a woman's life mustn't revolve around a man." Luca said firmly.
" Really? So, she couldn't make that sacrifice? If she truly loves like she claims she would have married him. Tell me, what sane woman will sit and watch her man walk down the aisle with another woman? Only a woman who is in a relationship there for the money will do such a thing. Every woman protects their man, but she chose to expose him to the hands of a strange woman, all in the name of not being ready." Evelyn said.
" Well, you can choose to believe whatever you have in your head. Helen is ready to marry him, so sign the damn papers and leave." Luca said at the top of his voice.
" And what I say, I won't sign the papers?" Evelyn asked with a straight face.
" I can't even say such a thing because you signed an agreement, and you have to stick to that no matter what," Luca replied.
" Is there more to this that you're telling us? Because I don't know why you keep fighting for her, you act as if there's something you stand to gain if she marries him." Evelyn said.
" Really? You're dumber than I thought, what can I have to gain if she marries him." Luca asked, looking confused.
" I don't know, you can tell me yourself," Evelyn said.
" Ok then, for your information, fake wife, I have nothing to gain; I'm only fighting for my friend," Luca said.
" Your friend? Wow! That's good, you're a good friend indeed." Evelyn said.
" Yes, Helen is my friend; she's been my friend since high school. I introduced her to Martin, so I can't sit and watch her get hurt when I can help." Luca said.
" Oh! You were talking about her, I was talking about my husband. Anyways, your time is open, leave!" Evelyn yelled.
" Your husband? You wish, Martin was never yours and can never be yours. Get that into your stinky skull." Luca said arrogantly.
" You're just a fool. You can't sit and watch your friend get hurt, but you sit and watch her make the biggest mistake of her life. Anyways, birds of the same feathers they say, flock together. Now leave!" She yelled again.
" You won't speak to me like that!" Luca yelled back.
" And what if I do, what would you do? Hit me? Go ahead, hit me, you go ahead, and I'll let the whole world know how you beat up a married woman in her matrimonial home. I'm sure you know Martin's dad won't even take it with you. You idiot!" Evelyn said as walked up to him, hitting him in his chest.
" You know what? I'll leave before you push me to get out of character, but just so you know, I'll be back." Luca said and headed out of the house.
" Go! You fool! You came into my home to threaten me, it's the audacity for me." Evelyn shouted after him, breathing heavily.
She walked hurriedly to the door and locked it up as he got out of the house. She fell on the floor and burst into tears. Soon, she started throwing tantrums and began to scream.
" I hate you, Martin! I hate you! Why did you choose to hurt me this way?" She said tearfully, she was devastated.
She began to have flashbacks of the night Martin asked her to be his woman.
