" Are you okay? Why do you have swollen eyes?" Martin asked as he walked into the house.
Evelyn snubbed, she turned to leave his presence when he grabbed her hand;
" Take your filthy hands off me!" She yelled, breathing heavily.
" Calm down Evelyn, enough with the silent treatment! Silent treatment won't solve or change anything. The divorce will still go on and you know, so just take a chill pill." Martin said angrily.
" Wow! I should take a chill pill. Is that what you have to say? How didn't see through you? Why did it take me this long to see and know you for who you truly are?" Evelyn said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
" You're taking this too far, Evelyn. We're only sticking to the initial agreement." Martin said, smacking his head.
Evelyn screamed so loud, she was so angry. Martin had to cover his ears, he became scared of moving close to her;
" Evelyn, please take it easy." He said calmly.
" Really? I should take it easy. After hurting and breaking my heart into pieces, you still expect to be calm. Martin, why are you wicked? Why are you so heartless? Why are you self-centred? You keep saying I'm self-centred; meanwhile, you're the narcissist here; you don't want to know what I'm going through; you don't even care. As long as you're happy and you get what you want, you're good, nothing else matters to you anymore. I never knew I'd been living with a monster all this while. You only pretend to be good and nice, but you're nothing close to good and nice; you're the direct opposite of the words." Evelyn said furiously.
" Evelyn, I'm sorry," Martin said softly.
" Don't tell me that; you're not sorry, and you know it, Martin. Stop with the pretense." She said at the top of her voice.
" Evelyn, I know you won't believe me, but I'm sorry," Martin said.
" Just shut up!" She yelled, sobbing.
Martin kept mute so that he wouldn't trigger her anymore.
" I want to ask you a question and I want nothing but the truth," Evelyn said firmly.
" Ok....." Martin said faintly.
" Did you ever love me? When you asked me to be your woman, was it truly freeing your heart, or did you ask me out so that I could be a sex toy to you whenever Helen was unavailable? Answer me!" She yelled.
" No, Evelyn, you were never a sex toy to me. I meant when I said I love, I do." Martin said.
" So what changed? I mean at what point did you fall out of love with me? Though I know, you never genuinely love me, just answer the damn question. Evelyn said firmly.
" I never felt out of love with you. I'm still in love with you, but my hands are tight. My reputation and inheritance are at stake if I take the risk." Martin said and bowed his head in shame.
" What else are they blackmailing you for, other than telling your dad the truth?" Evelyn asked.
" They? No, it's not Helen, and it's no.t. I'll be fine." Martin said.
" So you choose to keep it to yourself?" Evelyn asked.
" Yes, I will, thank you," Martin said, nodding his head.
" Luca was here today." She said firmly.
" He was here? I didn't tell them he was coming, and he didn't call me to inform me that he was at the place; what did he say that brought him here?" Martin asked, looking surprised.
" He came to warn me and also told me your little secret," Evelyn said and looked away.
" Little secret? What are you talking about?" Martin asked, looking confused.
" He said you never loved me; he said I was just a sex toy to you, so you pretended to be in love with me so that you could satisfy your sexual needs whenever Helen was out of reach. Evelyn said, looking into his eyes.
" What! Luca said that to you?" Martin asked with eyes wide open, he was shocked.
" He even said more," Evelyn replied.
" He must be out of his senses," Martin said furiously.
He picked up his car key and stormed out of the house.
" Just deal with an idiot, deal with him for ruining my day," Evelyn said and went upstairs.
Soon, Martin was at Luca's house, he knocked on the door furiously, Luca opened the door and said to him;
" Hi, dude."
" How dare you, Luca? How dare you?" Martin asked furiously.
" Oh! She has told you, "I know she was going to go to you, all she wants is for you to reconsider your plan, that greedy thing." Luca said rudely and rested on the couch.
" You won't talk about her like that; I won't stand here and watch you down-talk my woman; no matter what happens, she's my woman; I'm still married to her, so accord some respect," Martin said firmly.
" According to whom? That peasant? Nah, you and I know that can't happen. I know how she came In. How do you expect me to respect someone who agreed to a contract marriage because of money?
" What are you talking about? Same contract marriage, your best friend brought the idea? If there hadn't been refugees to marry me, all of these wouldn't be happening. The lady was only trying to save my mother's life, unfortunately she lost her. She couldn't go back on her word because she already signed the agreement and was paid an upfront payment. She knew she couldn't raise a refund. She had no choice but to go ahead with the marriage." Martin explained.
" Dude, you didn't need all that explanation; I know the story; I was there when everything happened, so chill. I'm only disappointed in you for betraying Helen, that girl didn't deserve that, you know?" Luca said, shaking his head.
" Are you mentally deranged? What do you mean by she doesn't deserve that, someone who couldn't make sacrifices for our love, is that the kind of lady I'm supposed to be with? Yet she's still blackmailing, is that fair?" Martin said angrily.
" Why not talk to her?" Luca suggested.
" Talk to her about what?" Martin asked.
" To exercise patience with you till you finally get a solid plan on how to get the divorce without hurting your dad," Luca explained.
" And you think I've not done that?" Martin asked, shaking his head.
" Then try your hardest, but do it calmly this time, I'm sure she'll listen," Luca said.
" You think that will… … … … … … … … …"
Suddenly, the kitchen door opened;
" Hi, Martin." The feminine voice interrupted Martin.
