Mia peeked into Lila's room, finding her sitting cross-legged on the bed, staring out the window. Her face was as pale as ever, and there was a hollowness in her eyes that worried Mia more with each passing day.
"Lila," Mia said softly, stepping into the room. "I just heard the doorbell."
Lila barely acknowledged her, giving a small nod without looking away from the window.
"I went to check, but there wasn't anyone there," Mia continued, leaning against the doorframe. "Just another bag of food. And before you ask—it's definitely from Caleb."
That got Lila's attention. She turned her head, narrowing her eyes. "What is he trying to do?"
Mia shrugged. "I think it's pretty obvious. He's trying to make sure you and the baby are okay."
Lila groaned, running a hand through her hair. "I didn't ask for this. I don't want him doing… whatever this is. He can't just leave bags of food on the doorstep and think it makes up for everything."
