Chapter 4 - 4

Upon hearing the signal, Trygve nodded to her archers. It was time to move in. Olgir was counting on her team to get the job done and she would not let him down. Not only did her honor depend on it, but also the lives of everyone on the battlefield.

Great responsibility is only ever thrust upon those with an equal measure of prowess to carry it out. With a task as important as hers, she knew Olgir had immense faith in her abilities.

In the bailey below, the bulk of the Wolf Clan's warriors were huddled together under overlapping shields. Enemy archers rained volley after volley of arrows down upon them, and as much as Trygve wanted to intervene, she couldn't.

Olgir, Eirik, and the others had distracted the enemy long enough for her to sneak up here to the ramparts undetected. If she blew her cover now, it was all for naught.

The rampart she was currently on was well occupied with nearly thirty enemy bowmen leaning over the wall, loosing an arrow, retrieving another from their quivers and firing again. Some didn't even use quivers, opting instead to hold reserve arrows in their nocking hand.

This enabled them to release arrows up to three times faster than their comrades. Trygve recognized this technique; it was the same style of shooting she and her three hand-picked archers employed.

At any rate, their foes were too focused to notice her and her team crawling on their bellies mere meters behind them.
